Directed by Charlie's Angels and The Babysitter's McG, This Means War follows two CIA agents, Franklin "FDR" Foster (Chris Pine) and Tuck Hansen (Tom Hardy), who realize that they are dating the same woman named Lauren Scott (Resse Witherspoon), causing the two friends-turned-rivals to compete against each other for her affection. Spencer plays Katie, Tuck's ex-wife. This is one of Spencer's best roles because not only is her role substantial, but she also is able to hold her own against major movie stars like Pine, Hardy, and Witherspoon.

True Detective is an anthology crime series in which each season follows a different set of characters and their struggles with solving a difficult murder case. In season 2, the story is about three police officers from different departments (Taylor Kitsch, Colin Farrell, and Rachel McAdams) who attempt to investigate the mysterious death of Ben Caspere (Bo McCann). Meanwhile, a former criminal named Francis Semyon (Vince Vaughn) starts his own investigation into Caspere's death. While True Detective season 2 was not as well-received as season 1, it was praised for the cast's excellent performances, including Abigail Spencer who plays Gena Brune, the ex-wife of Farrell's Ray Velcoro.

Reprisal is a noir drama series that follows Katherine Harlow (Abigail Spencer), a femme fatale who assembles a crew to get her revenge against the gang that killed her brother and left her for dead after dragging them by a truck. While the show was canceled after one season, it still remains one of Spencer's best roles because not only is she the lead, but she also gets to play a darker character than most in her filmography. Spencer effortlessly becomes a woman on a quest for vengeance, and she pulls it off very well.

7 Timeless (2016-2018)

Co-created by The Night Agent's Shawn Ryan and The Boys' Eric Kripke, Timeless tells the story of a team called the "Lifeboat" who must go back in time and stop a mysterious organization called Rittenhouse from fundamentally changing all of history using a time machine stolen by a group of terrorists. Abigail Spencer plays Lucy Preston, a history professor who must lead the "Lifeboat" team and use her extensive knowledge of history to stop Rittenhouse's plans. This is one of Spencer's best roles because she is the protagonist of an incredibly entertaining show that offers a unique twist on the time travel genre.

6 Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

Directed by The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, Cowboys and Aliens is about Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) a nameless, outlaw with amnesia who teams up with wealthy cattle owner Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) and a mysterious woman named Ella Swenson (Olivia Wilde) to defend a small town from an alien abduction. Considered one of Harrison Ford's best Westerns, Cowboys and Aliens is also one of Abigail Spencer's best projects because not only is it an underrated sci-fi western mashup, but Spencer's role as Alice, the love of Jake's life, is small but integral, as it's her death by the aliens that is how Jake got amnesia in the first place.

5 Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)

Directed by legendary horror filmmaker Sam Raimi, Oz the Great and Powerful is a fantasy adventure and a sort of prequel to The Wizard of Oz. It follows magician/con artist Oscar Diggs (James Franco) who accidentally travels to the realm of Oz after his hot air balloon gets caught in a tornado. Accompanied by his friends, Oscar goes on a journey through this mysterious land and eventually becomes the iconic Wizard of Oz. While Spencer's character May, Oscar's magic assistant in Kansas, does not have a substantial role, it is still one of the actress' more memorable thanks to the film's A-list cast and director.

One of TV's most popular medical dramas, Grey's Anatomy follows a group of doctors and nurses at the Seattle Grace Hospital and explores how their medical work affects their lives. Abigail Spencer joined the cast in season 14 as Megan Hunt, Owen's younger sister and a trauma surgeon who mysteriously disappeared while serving in the US Army. It is later revealed that she was held captive by a rebel force but was later found and then sent to a hospital in Germany before flying back to Seattle to work as a surgeon. Megan is a very complex character with a lot of depth, which is why it's one of Spencer's best roles.

Rectify is a character study drama series that tells the story of Daniel Holden (Aden Young), a man who is released from prison after new DNA evidence reveals that he did not commit the crime that he was convicted and sent to death row for. Daniel attempts to return to his normal life after being released from prison while also trying to reconnect with his family and loved ones. Abigail Spencer plays Daniel's sister, Amanda Holden, who always believed that Daniel was innocent, and to see Spencer embody such a complex character makes this one of her best roles.

Of all Don's mistresses on Mad Men, he had some of the most chemistry with Suzanne, and a large part of this is thanks to Spencer's soulful performance.

Throughout the show, Abigail Spencer plays Dana "Scottie" Scott, a top Harvard Law School graduate and head of her own firm who is a former partner and girlfriend of Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). This is Spencer's best role because not only is it arguably her most recognizable character, but she perfectly embodies the intelligent lawyer who can go toe to toe with Harvey Specter.
