The basilica in itself is a masterpiece. The wonderful Romanesque nave and transept preserved in their original forms are harmonious, cultural, artistic and historic in the same time. This the basilica for which I keep returning to Reims over and over again. Much like Chartres.

We visited during the day, some great modern stain glass windows as well as 13th century architecture. A cool light show on the front of the abbey at 10pm , all of which is FREE.

This beautiful cavernous church appeared dark at first, but by putting a couple of Euros in a slot suddenly the lights came on and the entire place was illuminated. There was an organist up high, playing a haunting melody and all in all our visit left a magical impression.

Beautiful old place of worship, and about 15 minute walk from the cathedral. Visibly stunning, both inside and out. Free entrance and doesn't take too long to walk round. However, there are descriptions in English and French inside of the history of the place. Lovely little park outside too

I still can't get over the exhibits here. They have Roman mosaic floors, beautiful Roman statues, bronze age tools, tapestries that will take your breath away, and so much more. I can't believe that this place is't more widely know.

As most people will go to the Notre Dame, you are pretty safe and quiet in the other huge church of Reims. This is not directly a significant historical place, but it is prettier than the Notre Dame. Do not forget to put one or two euros in the slot to light up the church. And moreover, take your time, sit and contemplate. Next to the church is its amazing museum. The door looks very not-inviting, but it is wel worth to push on and wonder around in the many historical items from Celts to Romans to warfare of 1870. Interesting place.

The Abby is definitely worth a visit. Not only for the ancient tapestries in the museum, but for the building itself. The church is much more impressive than the cathedral of Reims. Make sure to stop in!

I’ve visited a lot of historic religious buildings, particularly in England and France. The Abbey of Saint-Remi was by far my favorite. First of all, it was silent. Unlike many other breath taking, historic locations, the Abbey was quiet and mostly empty. During our 20 minutes inside, my husband and I saw a total of three other people. This is totally unlike any other experience I’ve had. I adore Notre Dame in Paris, but it is always packed with people. The Abbey gave a serene and peaceful feeling as we explored the space. You could get extremely close to everything and the gorgeous blue and yellow flower patterned stained glass window was amazing. This place is truly special. If you are in Reims, you should absolutely go inside.

We just happened to walk by here on the way from Pommery Champagne back to town.

We have been in a lot of cathedrals and it seemed pretty average. They have nice stone work and stained glass windows.

What really make the place worth visiting is that near the door you can pit a coin in a slot and for about 5 minutes it turns on all the lights and accent lights on the stonework and for these 5 minutes the cathedral is "beautiful".

So if you go here make sure to turn on the lights.
