Female masturbation is the self-stimulation of the genitals, including the vagina and clitoris. Typically, people masturbate until they orgasm, or climax.

Females can masturbate with their hands, with the aid of sex toys like a vibrator, by rubbing their clitoris against an object, and through other techniques. As long as the act involves self-stimulation, it is a form of masturbation.

The length of time it takes to climax varies from person to person. One study found that it took an average of eight minutes for females to climax via masturbation, which was considerably less than it took for them to climax via sex with a partner.

You may hear phrases like “touching yourself” or “pleasuring yourself.”

In Sweden, a new word to describe female masturbation made international news a few years ago. “Klittra” is a combination of the Swedish words for clitoris and glitter. This term highlights the significance of the clitoris in achieving pleasure via masturbation.

A common misconception is that women simply don’t masturbate. Women of different ages and with different sexual preferences enjoy masturbation. Studies have found that young adult men masturbate more than young adult women do. However, this does not mean that women don’t masturbate at all, and may mean that men are more comfortable than women disclosing that they masturbate.

Female masturbation will not ruin a person for sexual relationships with other people. In fact, many psychologists believe masturbation can help people prepare for sex with another person because they will be better able to communicate their preferences to their sexual partner.

Many people think that female masturbation can only be done alone, but lots of women masturbate with their partner present as well as during intercourse. Some women may masturbate before intercourse to increase their chances of orgasming.
