Product Description
Milla Jovovich, Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez star in this gripping suspense-thriller about an island vacation that turns deadly. Honeymooners Cliff (Zahn) and Cydney (Jovovich) are hiking a jungle trail to a remote Hawaiian beach when they hear that police have uncovered a grisly murder scene and the suspected killers are somewhere nearby. Unsure whether to stay or flee, the pair joins two other couples and things start to go horribly wrong. Far from civilization, a brutal battle for survival begins where danger lurks along every twist of the path and no one is who they seem. From director David Twohy comes the suspenseful film critics call, “a clever, heart-pounding thriller” (Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle).

The only thing I didn't understand is how he was able to smuggle a pistol with him, but they have been doing it for a long time. Another reviewer mentioned the "bone" thrown where they are talking together in private that throws the audience off even if they are very acute to figure movies out early and who the killers might be. Remember, they are looking for a couple they "want to be". That discussion was based on how crazy they thought the other couple was and he wants to make sure his "wife" is ok with assuming their personalities and has doubts himself. Whenever "cliff" needs to see something clearly, he removes the glasses to see better. There are clues all throughout the movie and rewatching it a few times let's you see the brilliance on how these clues are laid out until we reach the conclusion of their motivation. It's very bold and let's the audience know who the killers are very early in the movie, but relies on how people make first impressions of people to hide everything. Even the scheming and planning of cliff along the way. He is constantly thinking of when, where, how to kill and assume a couples lives, and where to get his fix for a "motivation" to be timed perfectly. They are so into their new lives, they want to know everything about who they are to become. That bone could easily have been him also going through a second thought of the difficulty going from "cliff" to becoming "Nick" and if that identity might get him the wrong attention he couldn't handle. Simply brilliant writing, acting, and production.
I did not have high hopes for this flick...I went to see it mainly because I have a secret crush on Milla Jovovich (if I were a lesbian, Milla and Mariska Hargitay from Law and Order would be my dream dates ;-P...). Was the film perfect? No. Nonetheless, to my utmost surprise, I enjoyed this thriller far more then I did many supposed "blockbusters" this summer. It had some laughs, but was also quite unnerving, tense, and creepy with a light sprinkling of gore: everything a good thriller should have on offer. There were signs from the audience that I was not alone in my enjoyment. However, the film did develop its creep factor slowly. The story needed time before it graduated from "fluff" to "nail biter". In the end, the super plot twist more then made up for the wait!
Two names are worth mentioning (in addition to Jovovich): it was the first time I saw Steve Zahn competently playing a complex "grown up" character, a role totally different from the usual "doofus" types he seems to favour. Also, Timothy Olyphant surprised me with his performance. His acting skills often leave a lot to desire. Not here. He was PERFECT as the perennially confident and "difficult to kill" owner of a metal plate in his head...
who you thought was the killers are not.

Mi e piaciuto dall'inizio alla fine!....per me sono 5 ☆ meritate !
Of course, perhaps the Perfect Getaway viewer is supposed to think that certain characters are weird, but there's the rub: some things don't make sense and the twist isn't done cleverly-enough. I can't say too much without giving the game away, but the Director could have set things up better, really emphasising for instance that the off-the-wall character Nick was (allegedly) an ex-army man and was therefore someone who should perhaps be left alone.
Indeed, right near the end we could then have had a 'flashback' review of various conversations leading-up to the climax, which at first you thought had one meaning, but you subsequently realise the protagonist/s had another agenda in being wary. Instead, we just get a flashback of the killer's bad deeds, not really explaining why he/ she has killed people and why he/ she is so deranged as-to go out killing. It's all a bit vague on that point.
Also (and this might be just me), but when things really got going 20 minutes from the end, I got confused about which girl was which bloke's partner, because although the actresses don't look that similar, the female characters are not distinctly different enough in this instance.
You can't help but compare this film to the similar Long Weekend, but a Perfect Getaway is much better than that bore-fest. The acting is okay, with Timothy Olyphant's 'Nick' being the standout, and the scenery is great etc, but it's still a slightly-less-than-average movie, partly because the characters are a bit annoying (is Steve Zhan deliberately playing Brad from the Rocky Horror Show?)
If you like thrillers, this is a film for you. In fact, there are so many twists and turns (and some kick-butt action sequences) you will resent the fact you have to "pause" the film for a bathroom break or a ringing phone.
I love the gorgeous scenery, the pace of the film, and the fact that it includes some capable "I CAN take care of myself, thank you!" women, which is such a huge change from the usual Hollywood cookie cutter roles.
I enjoyed the twists and turns (and, let's face it, I enjoyed seeing Timothy Olyphant's firm bare butt in one scene ;-) hee hee), and some of the twists and turns are actually highly unexpected, and one or two will have you wearing your popcorn or your drink.
Oh, my rear lifted off the sofa a few times!! Nearly had a heart attack at one point (if you've seen the film, y'all know what I'm talking about!!)
Keeps you guessing, intelligently written, well acted, gorgeous scenery, Timothy O nekked... what more could you ask for?
Oh, and if Timothy O's nekkedness doesn't do anything for you, there's a hot nekked woman in the film as well. Lol.
