This is a good mystery. Olive is so happy and is ready to spend time with Jasper on Christmas. It seems that there is something he is keeping from her. She follows him but can't figure out what he is doing. When he leaves town suddenly, again, she is determined to find out what he is up to. When she does find him, she will be in for a surprise. They end up at a house where there are some sketchy things going on. Olive is enlisted to help Jasper find a killer and a traitor. Will they have a merry Christmas, or will the killer and traitor spoil it all?

This was an enjoyable book, once I got about 25% in to it. The first part of the book just wasn’t that interesting to me, but because I haven’t read the previous books in the series, I didn’t know anything about Olive and Jasper, the two main characters. I found Olive’s surveillance of Jasper’s comings and goings a bit uninteresting, but things got better once they both ended up at the same “lodge”, aka massive country house with generous hosts and a full staff, for the Christmas holiday. Of course, we knew there would be a murder, but I didn’t know that Olive already had a reputation as a sleuth, and Jasper apparently was involved in the governmental spy business. So they get to work behind the scenes on solving the murder, but their activities go on amidst the Christmas celebrations of many guests in the country house. It’s entertaining, light fare; perfect reading for the holiday season. I can’t say it’s my favorite, but it’s enjoyable and I recommend it.

Olive Belgrave is rather miffed when her sweetheart Jasper suddenly bows out of Christmas festivities at her uncle’s home, so when she learns that he is staying at Holly Hill Lodge, she drives down to take a peek at it. Unfortunately, while leaving her car is struck by another vehicle, and she is brought to the Lodge to be treated for her injuries. The hosts welcome her, as they love having house guests, but trouble soon appears in the form of a butler who first goes missing and then is discovered dead. And back-to-back snowstorms are not helping the investigation…. This is the sixth in the High Society Lady Detective series, and it answers a lot of questions about Jasper, Olive’s childhood friend and now sweetheart. As such, it’s very entertaining, although I’m not sure I buy into the whole “more the merrier, including complete strangers” ethos projected at a stately home especially at Christmas, and I thought the butler was perhaps a bit too much of a bad guy. Nevertheless, I’ve enjoyed this series thoroughly and look forward to the next entry, whenever that may be! Recommended.

She arranges to see a friend's remodel project for her new home that just happens to be a little away from where Jasper is staying.
An unexpected accident causes Olive to be a guest in the same home that Jasper is staying in.
When Jasper and Olive look into the butler's disappearance, they come across his body and are now involved in the murder of a person that Jasper has been trying to find information on.
Now the question is? Is the butler a spy? Or was he doing something else to attract the attention of someone who would want him dead?

Well developed characters, a little humor, some intrigue, and a good plotline.
