      Critics Consensus

An old-fashioned courtroom drama with a contemporary edge, A Few Good Men succeeds on the strength of its stars, with Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and especially Jack Nicholson delivering powerful performances that more than compensate for the predictable plot.

Laura F Nothing more and nothing less than 4 stars, amazing cast, amazing acting and an amazing storyline! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Tom C Phenomenal movie. Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson are such phenomenal actors. Words can't describe how much I love them. Aaron Sorkin's script is so well-written. His dialogues are smart and witty and the characters are intriguing. Rob Reiner's direction is airtight and he milks his great cast for everything they've got. He gets them to deliver some of the best performances of his career. Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, Kevin Pollak, Kevin Bacon, Keifer Sutherland and J.T. Walsh are absolutely phenomenal in their roles. This is such an amazing drama movie that's extremely thrilling. I'd recommend it to anyone. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Adi 1 A brilliantly put together masterpiece which features great performances, compelling dialogues and a masterful direction. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Berkcan S good court room drama Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/06/23 Full Review Jonathan M One of the best of all time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/23 Full Review Abha T My favourite movie of all time and I disagree with the esteemed panel of critics who must've dissected every single scene and criticised Rob Reiner's sentimentality and Aaron Sorkin's verbosity but then they've never understood the military very well. The theme of Code Red and how it's actually a euphemism for military discrimination, bullying and hazing and this rather green lawyer's attempt to understand and discontinue the practice makes it one of the most honest portrayals of courtroom drama and military life. Edward Guthmann San Francisco Chronicle It's directed with taut efficiency by Rob Reiner. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 11, 2023 Full Review David Ansen Newsweek Designed to get the audience rooting for this upper-class underdog, the movie accomplishes its task with military efficiency. But since the deck is stacked and the cards well worn, it hardly seems a victory to cherish. Feb 8, 2018 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Tribune By pitting Cruise against Nicholson in the film`s final courtroom confrontation, Sorkin and Reiner are pitting two notions of masculinity and two notions of stardom against each other. I can see why it was good in terms of building the tension and trying to at least arouse some aspects of suspense. But does that a good movie make? I'm not sure.
