Zum Beispiel Otto Spalt is a little known film, even in Germany, despite a killer cast that inludes Otto Sander, Rolf Zacher, Irm Hermann, Katharina Thalbach, Udo Samel and the great, great Alfred Edel, but ever since I happened to catch it on TV many years ago, it has stuck with me for its great premise alone: Director René Perraudin turned a bunch of short films he made, all starring Otto Sander (best known internationally as the angel Cassiel in Wings of Desire) into a feature film by creating the narrative framework of film director Otto Spalt (played by Sander, as well) introducing these short films to a committee who decide whether they should fund his upcoming feature film.
