New poster for ‘Hocus Pocus 2’
The original really puts me in a Halloween mood. I hope the sequel does the same.
I have a feeling this is going to be yet another one of those "everyone forgets it exists weeks after its release" movies.
Coming To America 2 vibes.
Dumb & Dumber To vibes.
Zoolander 2 vibes
That movie is pretty terrible but my best friend and I laughed our asses off in the theater to that sequel.
That's the only way to enjoy a movie like that. I went with a group of friends and laughed alot. Probably wouldn't have even smiled if I watched it alone.
The few scenes I laughed at are the reasons it doesn't work as well as the first film. The original placed these two idiotic almost cartoon characters in an otherwise normal universe. The sequel though most people aren't real and are completely wacky. The duo worked so well because of Jim Carey over the top zaniness versus Jeff Daniel's playing his character more toned down. Maybe it's just another one of those perfect storms that cannot be replicated.
I was looking forward to Coming 2 America
I very much enjoyed it but I forgot it existed untill it was mentioned just now.
I know I’m the only person, but I got a kick out of CTA2. Lol
Such a flop lol like an embarrassing considering the legacy of the first one
That last Bill and Ted movies vibes too...
I'm still surprised they didn't even try to bring back Birch or the original cast alongside the witches.
I still don’t get why Thora Birch isn’t a major star.
There were a lot of allegations back in 2010 that her dad got her blacklisted by threatening people - and admitted to the Guardian a while back that she had a bit of a reputation she spent years trying to overcome.
Hollywood sucks sometimes.
They weren't allegations: he straight up did that shit. People have had problems with her creepy dad for years and your work reputation is everything in Hollywood.
Now she's directing and starring in that tacky as hell Gabby Petito movie on Lifetime.
That’s a problem I had with the trailer when I watched it
I learned yesterday that there was a Robocop remake in 2014. I had no idea. pretty baller cast too, but I've never once heard anyone talk about it
It's not good, but you can see it could have been. The director is Brazilian and did a couple solid movies about Brazilian police and the extreme violence and corruption they deal with - a genuinely good choice. It tries to do some commentary on modern media with a Fox News type character. It deals more with AI and transhumanism.
It just doesn't really work as a whole, with weak writing for the lead, weak supporting characters, a bad villain, and an abrupt and terribly handled climax.
Ten times better than the Total Recall remake anyway, which is total garbage with nothing of merit.
TIL there was a remake of Total Recall
SPOILER: it’s bad
I thought the new Robocop was decent popcorn flick but the original is just so great.
Robocop remake was a train wreck nobody asked for. The only thing I remember liking in the Total Recall remake was that the tech design was pretty slick.
Only good thing to really come out of the RoboCop remake was Joel Kinnamen. I loved him in Altered Carbon.
Can't say the same for his unfortunate role as Rick Hall in the first Suicide Squad film...
The “official” RoboCop remake was bad
“Our RoboCop Remake” was fucking golden
I'm just going out on a limb and assuming it's the one with the dick shot scene.
I'm hoping beyond hope that this is good, but I'm still incredibly disappointed that they didn't bring back the original kids, or at least Omri and Vinessa, as the parents in this one.
I was convinced this had already been made and came and went without much notice. Maybe because they’ve been talking about this for years.
It’s likely going to retread the same beats, mix in some current events type humor and cell phones, and largely do nothing but tarnish the nostalgia factor of the original.
But, yo, whatever.
Remember the matrix 4 hype? I still haven’t seen it and kinda pretend it doesn’t exist.
I think everyone will watch it for Halloween this year, then next year and thereafter just go back to watching the original
Yup you’re right
same feels here!
This movie could be an exception due to the total dearth of seasonal halloween movies. There's really not that many and, I think, a really hungry market for more.
Went back and looked at pics from the original and it looks like Kathy Najimy flipped sides with her lip thing, she had the left side closed in the original. Unrelated, but wow does Bette Midler look basically the same, crazy!
Bette Midler got famous while I was a kid and from my eyes I always thought she looked vaguely like a good looking 50 year old woman. 30+ years later she still does.
it’s amazing what photo retouching can do….
I’m actually really looking forward to this. I’ve always loved these characters and the actresses in the roles. Also, the first teaser they put looked very promising with good production value.
at worst, I can still watch the original with no changes to how much I enjoy it
That’s what I thought before the Hobbit movies come out. It will always slightly taint your perception of the original IMO
It honestly wasn’t that bad… and I read the book. I thought it was just fine. Could have been better, the CGI was a bit icky… but hey it gave me the content I needed
not to give complete benefit of the doubt to PJ, but he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. With several delays, changes of distributive studios, Del Toro moving on, etc., I can’t entirely fault Jackson for how the movies turned out. It’s no wonder he hasn’t done anything other than documentaries since
You were a big fan of the 1977 animated version?
lol im going to see this in theaters
Are you one of the 50 executive producers this fucking garbage fire will undoubtedly have?
Looks straight up painted.
SJP is going to awaken something in me again, isn’t she
Heheh, get a load of this guy making fun of someone for the way they look!
You do know she's a person, right?
Stop being a bully.
FYI: The 'Sarah Jessica Parker Looks Like A Horse' meme came from a line in the film Ed Wood where her character reads a news article and asks "Do I really have a face like a horse..?" which lead to some memes of comparing pictures of her to horses in similar poses. Somehow the meme has since convinced people that she does actually look like a horse - as opposed to the meme just being a joke about a line in a film she's in. Sort of like how everyone thinks Darth Vader ever says 'Luke I am your father' or Will Smith can't pronounce 'earth' in Independance Day. One person paraphrases wrongly, everyone else goes along with it. Now the actual origin is forgotten entirely.
Oh relax, it's a joke. Stop trying to defend everyone. SJP doesn't need you protect her.
Fun fact, SJP is the only witch not wearing a prosthetic nose.
I see the replies to my above comment and all I say is that I still think she looks good
At 57 she’s definitely still got it.
Ferris Bueller, that lucky bastard
They’re saying she has a horse face. If you google it you’ll find it’s a pretty common comparison. For what it’s worth, I think she looks good too.
yeah, I’ve seen this joke since before reddit was a thing. It was old before the first sex and they city movie was even a thing
She's going to wake the stallion in you.
I'm super SUPER excited for this movie!!!!
I hope it’s good, I love the original.
You know some movies don’t need Sequels and this is one of them
I am excited to see improved graphics, and the actors for the Sandersons again, but seeing the trailer and it talking about the girls being witches genetically rather than it being a practice puts me out of it, but I will watch it cause it's Hocus Pocus and I loved the first one.
But it makes sense though. They are witches. You can't kill them.
I’m talking about creativity wise this won’t be good due to the lack of creativity from Disney majority of their new releases are Mediocre at best in fact it’s not just them it’s 95% or Hollywood at this point
I mean its not like Hocus Pocus was some succinct artistic vision that had a statement to make and now there's nothing left to say. If the movie just has good costumes, set design and atmosphere it'll succeed in being a fun halloween movie for kids, which is something there really isnt enough of.
Oh you mean they could have tried to create a new Halloween movie from scratch from new characters?
I guess wanting to murder children for immortality is glorious.
They are the villains, lol. The movie’s message is that you shouldn’t do that.
Because it's spooky when you're a kid. It's a horror movie.
Would immortal child murderers not be spooky as an adult?
Well they don't kill adults so it's not spooky in the sense that they aren't coming to get you. I mean sure you wouldn't want them to kill other people, but this is a children's tale, and as is typical of children's tales, the monsters come for the children and must be dealt with by the children.
So thats where the Q people got it from.
Looking forward to being entertained for an hour or so. I LIKED Chip n Dale.. But it's not something that had lasting appeal and it lacked A LOT of the charm, story-telling, and effort that Roger Rabbit had. It was fun. But the writing was a bit forced at times.
I haven't seen Coming 2 America... And I refuse to watch it. Though I heard REALLY REALLY good things about Top Gun: Maverick. So maybe sometimes a sequel coming out 30 years after the OG CAN be good.
I will always admire them not only making a Rescue Rangers movie, but using it as an excuse to make an actual Roger Rabbit sequel.
Still hoping the Darkwing Duck tease at the end pays off.
Supposedly, the people who did the Ducktales reboot are working on a Darkwing Duck reboot that follows the character from the show.
I found Top Gun Maverick to be utterly banal and nearly completely predictable. It was like they just remade the first movie, but with different actors with different names. It boggles my mind to hear so many good reviews. The movie was just barely ok.
nearly completely predictable
I really wish people would stop putting so much stock in unpredictability as the hallmark of good storytelling
I mean, it’s pretty f’ing boring when the character development goes exactly as you expect. Boring is the opposite of entertained. I like to be entertained when I watch a film.
I care less about being surprised at what happens and much more about how it happens. It really doesn’t detract much if I can see a plot point coming from a ways off, I want to experience the execution and how they thread the needle to get there.
That's because it was actually an amazing cinema experience. The acting and pacing were great and it managed to be a great modern followup to a mediocre 80s film. I saw it in the cinema twice because I wanted to experience the sheer adrenaline boost the 2nd half of the film gives you
Different strokes for different folks, I personally found it really boring and the callbacks to the original were groan inducing. The whole movie was very by the book which isn't necessarily a bad thing but I just wasn't into it. It doesn't help that Tom Cruise is just one of those people where I can't separate the art from the artist so the emotional beats of the film just did not land at all for me.
I’m just waiting for the inevitable joke about their age in the movie.
I kinda wish they uped the anti and made this more pg13 since all the og fans are older now
Rest assured, it will be terrible.
Nobody wished for this movie to exist, right? Am I crazy? Are people clamouring for a Hocus Pocus sequel?
Out of all the possible cool designs they could have come up with, this was the best one they signed off on? Did they intentionally want the poster to look uninteresting and boring lol? Hopefully the movie isn’t 💀
Yes lol. I’m getting downvoted for saying this poster is absolute garbage. Idk why people are so against criticizing lazy poster art. Movies like this get such horrible ugly photoshop art nowadays when their older counterparts got so much more fun designs. We shouldn’t settle for mediocre art.
I really hope they don’t overdo it with too much CGI and lame jokes. Just keep it classy and cheesy with authenticity of the era.
My partner and I watch Hocus Pocus every halloween as a tradition while we eat candy :)
Two Witches and a Horse.
Can't some things be sacred. Quit digging up the corpse of my childhood and raping it.
I didn’t know this was even happening
But will it be as horny a the original?
Kathy Najimy, please stop with the weird lip thing.
Hopefully not another feminist cringe fest
Not commenting on the movie just the poster design but holy shit this poster is so ugly. The colors are so abrasive and annoying to look at. The characters are so sharp and well lit there’s literally nothing interesting or well designed about this poster.
I’m not saying it shouldn’t be colorful. Don’t make my argument something it’s not. There are plenty of great children’s movie and Disney posters, this is not one of them. Just because it’s for kids doesn’t mean you have to settle for mediocrity. It’s just a lazy and unimaginative poster. I love campy halloween movie posters. The original has a much better poster: https://lumiere-a.akamaihd.net/v1/images/p_hocuspocus_19880_e000b013.jpeg
The new one has no character to me. There are thousands of other studio movies with the exact same posters. I’m a big fan of good posters and this one is just one of the most egregiously lazy that I’ve seen in a while.
I think it’s the finest poster ever made. I have a keen eye for art and truly understand art compared to the average viewer. If this poster doesn’t invigorate you then nothing will. Good day to you, sir.
Lol what the fuck? I can’t criticize trillion dollar company Disney for their posters? I’m on a movies subreddit why are people so averse to discussion about the art of posters
You can criticize whomever if it pleases you. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am sorry that you must have lost your eyes many moons ago. Now good day, ole chap. I will not be saying good day to you a third time so carry on.
The movie no one wanted. Yet here it is. Whatever.
I wanted it :/
Me too. It's not like the first movie is impossible to follow up on. They are witches who come out on Halloween to hunt children. They can do it one more time. In fact they should come out once every generation to make sure all kids stay scared.
Exactly! It's the kind of movie that would be really good with or without sequels, maybe even a prequel! I would love a prequel!
The couldn't cast a spell against aging, but it looks like they tried
They used CGI to change their faces somewhat, similar to the Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett with Luke Skywalker, which was better in the Book of Boba Fett than the Mandalorian but I digress.
Who asked for this?
Isn’t that the same as the first one?
You really don't know?
Poster reminds me of the Skyrim skill tree.
Watched it last year the very first time.
I Love How they had to make them look older and now they look the same because they are this old irl
Hoping the movie will stay true to it's original.
I will go with low expectations haha.
At this point is there any movie pre-2000 that hasn't been re-made?
I always hated this movie
I seriously hope this and Clerks III doesn't destroy what good they had going for them. Sometimes it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.
Its not the early 2000s anymore
Quite surprised Disney made a movie with old actresses.
Bet these 3 will have like 10mins screen time and the rest will be some teens running around.
They will woke-ify this movie, guarunteed
This is probably going to be one of the most forgettable “why tf did they make this?” movies, but I watch the original every Halloween so you can be damn sure I’ll be watching this one with it, at least for this year.
Was anyone asking for this?
Who's the horse
Why? Why does Hollywood keep doing this?
We get a sequel to beloved films, and it ends up as a complete fucking shitter that taints the original and makes most people hate the films as a whole.
I mean I hope it’s good, but I definitely won’t hold my breath.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Spaceballs 2 the search for more money
Stop fucking up our classics!
She's still gonna do that mildly offensive, 'talk like I have a speech impediment' thing? Ok.
So this confirms Bette Midler is a Highlander right?
I really don’t think it’s going to be anywhere near like the original. Family movies have vastly changed since 1993. I don’t at all think it will have the clever jokes or the creepiness and darkness that the first had. It will most likely be a (hopefully) fun return to some old characters with a very focus grouped Disney approved new cast. I think ill like it, but it’s not going to feel like the first.
SJP can still get it
Did not know there was a 2😦😊
Nothing beats the original
