Plenty packed into this gem with much more to find in our next visit! The zoo was clean, well maintained and provided plenty of things to do on our way around. Saw many happy families enjoying their day out and the zoo keepers were friendly and very informative. If you’re anywhere near Heidelberg - the 11€ entry fee is well, well worth it. A great variety of animals. Excellent.

There are very similar zoo probably in every big city in this world. However, what I liked most is the varied collection of animals and other species is something quite awesome. More specifically kids would simply love visiting this zoo seeing animals up close and to interact to the best and safest possible way. My son visited and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. You could plan the entire visit to fit to the schedule the top attractions like Seal show. For that you have to make a quick planning once you start your visit inside the zoo. The attached souvenir shop is quite attractive one specifically for the kids. Lots of items are on display which you may feel buying, however, they are a bit too expensive, so you have to think twice before diciding on that!!!

A lot of fun for my 3 year old and I. Easy to find by bus from the Altstadt. Animal habitats are a bit small, but seemed well-kept. We saw quite a few baby birds, which was exciting. The food and drink options in the cage were good. The main playground was amazing. Lots of interactive features for sand and water play, a trampoline, and a merry-go-round, swings, and play structure for the younger set as well.

We visited with our daughter and our dog. Had quite low expectations, but it was a great place to spend the afternoon. We had read that it was good for a few hours, we were there for nearly 5 hours. You can get quite close to many of the animals and birds. My daughter loved being able to feed and pet the goats. We got the bus in from the centre of Heidelberg which was really easy and the bus stops right at the entrance.

This was our second visit here. The zoo has a big garage with wall art (animals) and sounds of animals it's cool. The place is clean, big and very nice. It has some smaller playground and one big close to the entrance. It's huge btw with a big wooden pirate boat, sand a water part, swings etc. Close to the playground you can find one Cafe and small food place. The food is eatable, but really don't expect any healthy food just schnitzel, pommes and wurst...We just saw the seal feeding with a little "show", it was funny. They have 2times feeding during the day so you can check it and visit on that time. Overall it's a very good place.

We went to the zoo as we wanted to see the polar bears. We visited the pen 3 times, but didnt see the polar bears. It was a warm day and many of the animals we wanted to see were not around. A bit disappointed as the zoo had poor signage, most exhibits were in German only and the free map provided seemed to contradict where the animals were sited, esp the elephants.

Its a bit of a hike past the university medical center, but a nice manageable zoo if you have extra time in Heidelberg. Typical array of elephants, monkeys, exotic birds, seals. Really lovely landscaping too for wandering around. Great for kids of course.

This is a fun little zoo with many animals that most zoos would have such as gorillas, zebras, camels and a tiger. They do have a nice collection of caged birds and waterfowl on display. An orangutan which exhibited tool use through using a stick to fish for insects in the grass was a highlight for me. Another highlight, especially for my wife, was clear views of a female two toed sloth with an offspring.

If you are used to large zoos such as the Toronto Zoo or Whipsnade Zoo you will find this place small and disappointing. However, it is enjoyable activity for an afternoon.

We never ate the food there because there were live chickens and house sparrows in the restaurant. Also their were flies flying around and resting on both the open pre-cooked food and food being prepared,

I spent a happy 5 hours at the zoo today with a German friend and her 3-year old son. The Sea Lion show was fun to see and I was pleased to see a Bear Cat and some Fossas amongst their collection of animals. Bring your own lunch as the food there was not worth purchasing and eating!
