After 15 years off the air, the stars of Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 return for the sequel film, Zoey 102. Debuting on the kid's TV network in 2005, Zoey 101 follows the titular character as she adjusts to her new life as a student at the prestigious Pacific Coast Academy boarding school in Malibu, California. An ever-popular series during its four seasons on the air, Zoey 101 made a star out of Jamie Lynn Spears and helped to usher in a new era of live-action content for Nickelodeon.
Though it wasn't a hit with all critics, Zoey 101 was mostly well-received and even managed to snag a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Children's Program in 2005. Always high on the list of kid's shows that should be revived as adult series, rumblings of a potential Zoey 101 revival series began cropping up in 2020 that were mostly spurred on by Spears' efforts to bring it back (via LAD Bible). Though Zoey 102's filming was announced in January 2023, news regarding the film has been coming quite quickly since the movie itself was confirmed. Since January, the cast has been confirmed with many of the classic stars reprising their roles, and the biggest update for Zoey 102 came in June 2023 when an official trailer was dropped which finally gave viewers a clue what the story would be about. Along with actually revealing glimpses of the movie itself, the debut of the trailer also revealed the official release date for Zoey 102, and the film will be dropping on Paramount Plus on July 27th, 2023.

Unlike many shows and movies which are announced and then drag on for months and even years without a release date, Paramount Plus' Zoey 102 was given a hard date only a handful of months after the project was announced. Zoey 102 is slated to premiere on Paramount Plus on July 27th, 2023, a fact that was revealed simultaneously with the release of the first trailer. The short span of time between the trailer and the release is the perfect way to drum up interest in the movie, as it gives audiences enough time to get excited but not too much time so that they forget all about it.
Zoey 102 Cast Members
Revivals are always a tricky business and one of the most important aspects of any successful reunion series or movie is the presence of the recognizable cast members. Zoey 102 has largely checked those boxes and has already promised the return of a majority of the show's original ensemble. Heading up the returning cast is Spears who will star as Zoey Brooks, and she is joined by Erin Sanders who reprises her role as Zoey's best friend Quinn Pensky. Sean Flynn is coming back as Chase Matthews as well as Matthew Underwood as Logan Reese.
Other notable returning cast members include Christopher Massey as Michael Barrett, Abby Wilde as Stacey Dillsen, and Jack Salvatore Jr. as Mark Del Figgalo, but not all the original stars will be reprising their roles. Notable absences from the cast include Victoria Justice who originally played Lola, as well as Alexa Nikolas as Nicole, and Paul Butcher as Zoey's brother Dustin. Austin Butler addressed his potential Zoey 102 return, but the Elvis star was ultimately not cast to appear in the revival film.
Besides the original cast members that make up the bulk of the exciting announcements regarding Zoey 102, the film also features a host of new characters and new cast members that have a chance to join the revival. One of the biggest names to join the cast of the Paramount Plus original movie is Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!) who will play Zoey's demanding boss Kelly Kevyn. Additionally, Owen Thiele (Hacks) will make an appearance as Archer March, one of Zoey's post-high school friends, and Dean Geyer (Glee) will appear as an actor named Todd.

Years after their time at PCA, Zoey 102 sees the familiar friends reunite as they all attend the over-the-top wedding of their former classmates Quinn and Logan. The film catches up with Zoey Brooks, whose love life is in a state of flux because she is still hung up on her high school sweetheart, Chase Matthews. While acting as the maid of honor for the wedding, Zoey is matched with an actor who she hires to pretend to be her boyfriend while she experiences her awkward reunion with Chase.

Debuting on Paramount Plus' official YouTube page on June 20, the trailer for Zoey 102 exquisitely reintroduced the characters as well as the conflicts in the movie. Zoey is seen being proposed to on a failed date as she laments her terrible love life, and she has a hard time keeping things together even as Quinn and Logan's wedding looms. Zoey is eventually tapped to be Quinn's maid of honor, but it is clear that her arrested development is at the forefront of Quinn's mind. Hanging over everything is Zoey's impending reunion with Chase which does nothing to help her emotional state.
The trailer promises to not only reunite the beloved characters but put them in new situations as Zoey and company attempt to escape the nostalgia of their years at PCA. The trailer also introduced several side plots and even hinted at a few action scenes as things get out of hand at the wedding-turned-class reunion. The sense of humor is on full display, and though the movie offers a more mature look at the Zoey 101 crew, much of the same comic beats are present. Zoey 102 looks to be so much more than simple nostalgia, as the characters have a chance to finally grow out of their teenage years.
