Zhu Zhu: International Star You Should Know

As China and Hollywood link up, they are looking for actors fluent in both languages. Zhu Zhu is one of those who can fill that gap

Zhu Zhu

CLAIM TO FAME

The 28-year old native of Beijing caught the public’s eye as a host of MTV in China. She made her bigscreen debut in the Chinese remake of “What Women Want.” She also appeared in two English-language entries last year, as the 12th Star Clone in “Cloud Atlas” and in the RZA-helmed “The Man With the Iron Fists,” produced by Eli Roth and Marc Abraham.

RED ARMY HERITAGE

The granddaughter of a People’s Liberation Army air force general who took part in China’s Communist revolution, Zhu Zhu has written plays in English and studied electrical engineering at Beijing Technology and Business U. She came close to studying fashion at Parsons School of Design in New York, but opted instead to take a job programming English-language fare for MTV in China.

PERSONAL QUOTE

“I hope that I will be on more film sets in the coming months, shooting films. I was planning to study more, but it’s a struggle with so many opportunities for film and trying to get better through studying. No matter what, I want to be making more movies.”

The performer (whose name is pronounced “juju”) hosted an English-language training skein in China. Earlier this year, she appeared in the bilingual “Shanghai Calling,” and has just finished shooting a leading role in contempo love story “Secret Sharer.”

COLLEAGUE’S PRAISE

“Zhu Zhu was a pleasure to direct in ‘Secret Sharer.’ Utterly beautiful, always cheerful and positive in attitude, intelligent, brave and moldable as an actor. The camera loves her natural beauty,” said helmer Peter Fudakowski.
