On March 27th, 1979, Ian Hunter released 'You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic' his 4th studio album. Co-produced by Mick Ronson, the album features members of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.
So underrated! I didn’t know he did an album with Mick Ronson, I gotta check that out.
Ronson doesn’t get enough credit for his contributions to albums like Lou Reed’s transformer and Bowie’s hunky dory and ziggy stardust. Awesome arrangements.
from the album wiki page:
Hunter says that the title (You're never alone when....) had been spotted on a toilet wall by co-producer Mick Ronson, who planned to use it for one of his solo albums. Hunter loved the title so much that he offered Ronson co-writing credit on the first single "Just Another Night" in exchange for the use of the title for the album. "Just Another Night" reached the Billboard Hot 100 No. 68. The album became one of Hunter's biggest sellers at the time.
They were close friends and collaborated through the years. In 1989 they released YUI Orta which has the exact sound you can expect from both. And "Lisa Likes Rock 'N' Roll" from Hunter's album Short Back 'N' Sides is dedicated to Ronson's daughter Lisa who sings 'here's my daddy'.
Saw him twice this tour, opening for The Kinks. He and his band were absolutely awesome!
I love the song Standing In My Light
Ronson was the last lead guitarist in Hunter’s former group Mott the Hoople
He replaced Ariel Bender who had replaced original lead guitarist Mick Ralphs when Ralphs left to join bad company
