I was reminded of just how beautiful the soundtrack of the film was when I was watching a rerun of the 1983 movie [ASIN:B00004RFGO The Year of Living Dangerously]] on television not long ago. This is early Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver at their best. The soundtrack fits the plot line of the film to the tee. Personally it took me away to the time I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a young Navy Hospital Corpsman back in the early 1980's. It reminded me of music by the Japanese artist Kitaro (

Personally it took me away to the time I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a young Navy Hospital Corpsman back in the early 1980's. It reminded me of music by the Japanese artist Kitaro (
Best of Silk Road
) and of the Swiss jazz harpist Andreas Vollenweider (
White Winds
). The music was composed by Maurice Jarre and "electronically realized" by Spencer Lee and Maurice Jarre. It is music that you seldom hear these days--exotic in nature and powerfully moving. I was so happy to have been able to purchase a CD copy of it to play both in the car and at home. I love it and I am sure many others have been enjoying it for quite some time and will continue to do so. It's really out-of-this-world.

I originally ordered the CD for the Strauss (Last Four Songs) more than the Jarre score, and was originally disappointed that the sound track contained only his original music. But I started listening to it in the car and found much of it incredibly peaceful, evocative and centering. I now listen to it daily -- almost like a meditation session. Beautiful.

It's great, as expected

Does not include the the Kiri te Kanewa songs, which really made the soundtrack for the movie so powerful and compelling.

Very nice.

As previously reviewed this soundtrack left off some key musical songs, for example, the song in the scene in "shadow play" with L. Hunt and M. Gibson. The music in that scene (shadow play) was fantastic. Nevertheless, it was not on this cd. Therefore this cd was rated average-3 stars.

Given as a gift and receiver said it was in perfect condition. Arrived very quickly compared to what was stated might be the wait time when ordered.

The single most appealing piece in "The Year of Living Dangerously" original soundtrack (notice the lower case) would surely be Vangelis's "L'Enfant." This is the beautiful instrumental music that accompanies the love scene where Sigourney Weaver (Jill) walks through the rain to Mel Gibson's (Guy Hamilton's) office where she wordlessly confesses that she is overwhelmed by her feelings for him. If you're buying "The Year of Living Dangerously; Original Motion Picture Soundtrack," you may naturally expect this keystone piece to be included, because it is, indeed, part of the original soundtrack, i.e. the music that accompanies the film. Bad news: It's not there. The rest of the music, while interesting, could best be described as "incidental." The astute consumer may notice that a part of the sleeve announces "Original Music by Maurice Jarre". I was extremely disappointed. This may be a Vangelis problem since the week before, I had purchased what was advertised as the "Bladerunner Soundtrack," and was similarly disappointed to find it was NOT the original soundtrack (nothing on the CD itself claimed to BE the soundtrack), but instead, some pieces that had been featured in the film along with some other pieces, all recorded by Vangelis on a separate occasion, and in my opinion, disappointing. I now believe that Amazon has the obligation to notify the consumer on their website advertisement of this product that these albums are not what they seem, and most certainly to drop the "O.T.S." and the word "Soundtrack" from the "Bladerunner" album.

Unfortunately the Soundtrack is all about Maurice Jarr's compositions and the film has much better music that was not included in the Soundtrack so it is quite disappointing
