Yasen Petrov said his aims were to win the Bulgarian A League title and have a successful UEFA Europa League run after being named as new coach of PFC Levski Sofia.

PFC Levski Sofia have named Yasen Petrov as their new coach, with the 42-year-old signing a two-year deal at the club.

Petrov succeeds sporting director Georgi Ivanov, who had acted in a caretaker capacity since October 2009, leading Levski to a third-placed finish in the Bulgarian A League and a UEFA Europa League qualifying berth for next season.

He started his playing career at PFC Botev Plovdiv in the late 1980s and, after a one-season spell at Levski, won the Bulgarian Cup with PFC Lokomotiv Sofia in 1995. Petrov cut his coaching teeth at Lokomotiv Sofia and has also been in charge at Botev Plovdiv, PFC Cherno More Varna and PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv 1936.

The new appointment said: "The targets at Levski are always high – we want to win the league title and remain in the UEFA Europa League as long as possible. I am happy to be coach of such great club. We will have to work hard and stay positive." Meanwhile, former Levski coach Emil Velev is back in management after replacing Velislav Vutsov at PFC Slavia Sofia.
