Los Angeles-based independent studio XYZ Films has renewed its financing agreement with fund management company IPR.VC.

The agreement was set in 2019 and started an investment vehicle that has resulted in 20 productions in four years, including Matt Johnson’s 2023 Berlin and SXSW selection “BlackBerry” and upcoming Sundance premieres “Skywalkers: A Love Story,” a documentary directed by Jeff Zimbalist, and Steffen Haars and Flip Van der Kuil’s comedy “Krazy House,” starring Nick Frost and Alicia Silverstone.

Established 2015, and with offices in Helsinki and London, IPR.VC recently revealed the first closing of its third and largest film and television production financing fund to date and hired Andrea Scarso, an entertainment financier who previously worked at Ingenious Media, as partner and investment director.

The company has so far raised €150 million ($164.3 million) from institutional investors, pension funds, family offices and non-profit sector investors, over half of which has already been allocated against long-term slate led partnerships and film and television projects in Europe and the U.S.

XYZ CEO Nick Spicer said: “With the uncertainty in the independent market, it’s reassuring to have reliable, long term financing partners like IPR.VC. It enables us to continue supporting the films and filmmakers we believe in.”

Timo Argillander, IPR.VC co-founder and managing partner, added: “We’re delighted to be continuing our strategic partnership with the XYZ team. They are trusted partners, rightly renowned for supporting creative talent to tell distinctive stories as illustrated by the strength and diversity of their upcoming slate.”

Current titles from XYZ Films with backing from IPR.VC also include Atom Egoyan’s Toronto selection “Seven Veils,” starring Amanda Seyfried; “Ash,” starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul and directed by Flying Lotus; and “Daniela Forever,” directed by Nacho Vigalondo and starring Henry Golding and Beatrice Grannó.
