Priyanka Chopra’s Baywatch or Deepika Padukone’s xXx: The Return of the Xander cage – whose Hollywood debut was more impressive?

This year has been quite a treat for us as our favourite ladies, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, made their way into the international circuit with two potential franchise movies. While Deepika made her Hollywood debut with the action-packed, Vin Diesel starrer movie, ‘xXx: Return Of Xander Cage’, where she played the role of badass agent Serena Unger; the ‘Quantico’ star made hers recently with Baywatch, based on the 1989 TV series by the same name. In that she is seen playing the role of an antagonist Victoria Leeds, alongside main leads Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

The two have been called rivals by the media ever since news of their Hollywood projects came out, even though the two have time and again denied being in any kind of competition. However, with both foraying into the west around the same time, pitting them against one another was perhaps the most obvious. While both the ladies made us proud by bagging two interesting Hollywood projects , after all never before have Indians bagged such impressive mainstream roles (not even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan whose role in Pink Panther 2 got over faster than a blink of an eye), we believe that it was Deepika who trumped Priyanka in the Hollywood game. If we were to go by the two movies, both under performed at the US Box Office. xXx: Return of Xander Cage had fared slightly better with $20,130,142 earnings over its opening weekend as against Baywatch that garnered just $18,570,000 between May 26 and 28, its opening weekend. As of now, Deepika’s film has grossed USD 300 million worldwide.What perhaps didn’t work for the latter, apart from the script and lame punch lines, was the fact that it released along with Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, which got a much better opening and was also the number one at the US box office. This week, when Baywatch released internationally, it faced Patty Jenkin’s, Wonder Woman, which has again been garnering good reviews from all quarters. While it’s still too early to say how much the movie has grossed worldwide, reviews pouring in from everywhere don’t raise our hopes very much. Although PeeCee has garnered a lot of praises from the international press, her character as well as the movie in its entirety, has been very poorly written, which altogether dampened its performance. Deepika, on the other hand, garnered better reviews for her role in xXx: Return of Xander Cage that in her accord, did justice to her character. Well, while we went with the numbers and found Deepika’s performance better than PeeCee’s, who’s Hollywood performance did you find more impressive. Leave your comments below to let us know.
