Author. Son of August and Ottilie von Goethe. From 1839 to 1845 Wolfgang studied law at several german Universities. He got his degree of doctor juris at Heidelberg in 1845. He suffered from his great name. His publishings where measured by the standard his grandfather had set. Between 1845 and 1850 he lived in Vienna and Italy. In 1852 he entered the Prussian diplomatic service. He resigned in 1860 and returned to Weimar. In 1879 he moved to Leipzig where he stayed until his death.
