Built for Winthrop Williams Aldrich {Equitable Trust/Chase Bank, ambassador to the Court of St. James} on 108 acres. Georgian Revival c. 1926 by William Truman Aldrich {brother of Winthrop, brother-in-law of JD Rockefeller}. Sold in 1950 to Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt II. In 1956 sold to the famous bad boy escort of the Duchess of Windsor, James "Jimmy" Woolworth Donahue Jr.{grandson of FW Woolworth and known as "the Manhattan Caligula"}. Upon Donahue's death the house was sold in 1966 to Percy Uris. In 1985 owned by Louis Evangelista{real estate/capitalist} who later was convicted of tax evasion{local scandal}. "From a vaulted Gothic hallway, doors led to a card room, library, drawing room and dining room. The windows, from floor to ceiling , shed bright light into the rooms; a courtyard gave on to sloping lawns and formal gardens." Jimmy's bio DANCING WITH THE DEVIL by Christopher Wilson. The 108 acre site was subdivided and developed into "Broadhollow Estates" a housing development with very large modern homes on 2 acre lots. The house and several outbuildings still survive.
