Demi Lovato and Valderrama dated publicly on and off for six years, beginning in 2010. The singer previously said that Valderrama saved her life when she struggled with bulimia, addiction and bipolar disorder. They split for good in June 2016.
Lovato explained to Glamour that November, "I think it’s healthy to be able to start over with someone else. Being sick was always a part of my relationship with him; I always had something wrong with me. I needed to let go of that. It was hard to depart from somebody who saw everything, but it may be nice to start fresh with somebody. Because that person I was when I was a lot younger is not who I am today."

Valderrama and Mandy Moore began dating when he was 20 and she was 16 years old in 2000; they were together until 2002. He famously told Howard Stern in a 2006 interview that he took the This Is Us star's virginity, a remark that shocked her.
"I dated him when I was 16 and 17," she later said. "I love him and I still love him, and he’s a very good friend and that’s why I was so shocked by it because not only was it a fib, but it was so unlike him, it was so uncharacteristic."
Moore said she called Valderrama to confront him about the comment, explaining, "I remember in the moment he tried to explain it away, that sort of he did get caught up, and like he maybe insinuated more than outright said it. And I was like, ‘No, you outright said it.’ ... Losing your virginity is a private moment. But also I was like, ‘Why would you ever talk about that to anybody and lie about it, first of all!? I was like, oof!"
