It's Willie Nelson celebrating the 4th of July
I was already high when I started watching this but it made me higher. Also, Willie Nelson’s acoustic jazz guitar playing is transcendent.
Are you loaded? Cuz we are!
BW Stevenson's pianist banging the key cover down in time with the rhythm, Leon Russell's varying states of disrobe, Doug Kershaw mugging, Doug Kershaw creating no wave in front of ten thousand drunken Texans, Willie Nelson playing jazz on an electrified dime store acoustic with a hole worn into where his pick hits under the guard vs. Waylon sweetly strumming a custom cowhide bedecked white telecaster with a giant branded strap, Leon Russell winking while showing off a can of Lone Star in sepia light like he's been spliced in from a Sofia Coppolla flick, David Allan Coe awkwardly providing backup vocals for one song, every single drunken Leon Russell rambling.
When Waylon first started singing "Good-Hearted Woman" I got goosebumps.
doug kershaw is one of the craziest white boys of all time. leon russell was FADED af
get this cleaned up and rereleased please.
as the other six reviews here point out, doug fucking kershaw.
This film is America.
Whiskey River Overalls Dude deserves a place in rock doc lore alongside the venerable Naked Pole Guy of Sunshine Daydream.
