Netflix’s ‘Bodkin’ Looks Like A Darker, Irish ‘Only Murders In The Building’

Following

I have to hand it to Netflix: 2024 is shaping up to be pretty special for the streaming giant. We’ve had some terrific shows already this year including Ripley, The Gentlemen and Baby Reindeer.

Now we Bodkin to look forward to, and it looks terrific. The Netflix description reads: “A ragtag crew of podcasters sets out to investigate mysterious disappearances from decades earlier in a charming Irish town with dark, dreadful secrets.”

Color me intrigued. Here’s the trailer:

As readers know, I’ve been on a huge mystery kick lately. I’ve also been on a huge BritBox kick, so I’ve been watching shows like the excellent Irish police procedural, Blue Lights.

This looks like a bit of a mix of things. There’s definitely the obvious comparison to Only Murders In The Building given the podcasting angle. But there’s a wry humor here that reminds me a bit of Deadloch as well. And while this looks very funny, it looks like it goes rather dark. Gallows humor is certainly my cup of tea, and I’m very excited for this one.

Bodkin stars Will Forte (The Last Man On Earth, Nebraska) as Gilbert Power, an American podcaster seeking out his Irish roots; Siobhán Cullen (The Long Call, The Dry) as Dove, an investigative journalist from Dublin; and Robyn Cara (Doctor Jekyll) as Gilbert’s assistant.

Bodkin lands on Netflix this Thursday, May 9th.
