Gpedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Actors and filmmakers

Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Actors and filmmakers. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Gpedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary, it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Actors and filmmakers|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Actors and filmmakers.
Further information
For further information see Gpedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

WP:BLP of a filmmaker and an article about his film, both referenced entirely to either glancing namechecks of his and/or the film's existence in sources that aren't about them, or primary sources that aren't support for notability at all. The notability claim here is that his film won or was nominated for short film awards at second-tier film festivals like Saguenay, Cinéfest Sudbury and Clermont-Ferrand -- but WP:NFILM does not extend an automatic notability freebie to just every single film award that exists, but instead requires major awards that get broad media coverage (e.g. Oscars, Canadian Screen Awards or top-tier film festivals like Cannes, Berlin or TIFF.) The question of whether an award makes its winners encyclopedically notable or not is determined by how wide and broad the award's media coverage is or isn't: awards that get widely reported as national or international news count as notability makers, while awards that get little or no attention outside their own local catchment area, so that you have to rely on either the local newspaper or the award's own self-published website about itself to source the claim, do not.
It would be different if he and the film could actually be shown to clear WP:GNG on their sourceability, but just winning minor awards at film festivals of only regional prominence is not "inherently" notable enough to exempt them from having to be sourced better than this. Obviously no prejudice against recreation in March if it makes the Canadian Screen Award for Best Live Action Short Drama and/or Prix Iris for Best Live Action Short Film shortlists, but Saguenay and Cinéfest aren't enough. • Delete – the article creator created a draft that was rejected several times in AfC if memory serves, before having it deleted earlier today. This is no more notable than the draft was. As pointed out the article creator, the sources are press releases, in fact, there are three copies of the same press release in there, and it is rather hilarious to see how the same press release was apparently pushed out in two subsequent years – here he "avows" that "...the year 2019 has been good for him so far. “I have pushed out some contents this year [...]"" and here and here he "disclosed" that "...2020 has been a fruitful year for him. Speaking on that he shares, “I have pushed out some contents this year [...]" ". If we were not sure whether he was notable or not, that clinches it. --bonadea contributions talk 22:43, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Article about a non-notable actor that has been moved to draft twice and speedily deleted once, all very recently. The creator created this article under a new name adding "(actor)" at the end. Fails WP:NACTOR and WP:GNG, as the references are either useless or say nothing about the actor, just projects they have participated in. I also cannot find anything on them when I look them up myself (in fact, it says "no results"). Coreykai (talk) 17:45, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Contested PROD but no reason provided. Does not meet any inclusion guideline; assistant directors and crew members are not notable by default and would need to meet WP:BASIC or WP:GNG. Also WP:NOTINHERITED; notability is not inherited from famous parents. Changing to a redirect could be tricky as there is not one clear and obvious redirect target (I would argue both parents are equally notable).

I could not find multiple sources covering Disha Jha in any great depth during a WP:BEFORE search. Spiderone 18:05, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

  • Delete Does the subject receive in-depth significant coverage in multiple reliable and independent secondary sources? In-depth means the subject receives comprehensive and thorough coverage. Significant means the subject receives coverage that is sufficiently great or important enough to be worthy of attention. We all know what reliable, independent and secondary is. Multiple doesn't simply mean more than one, numerically. It actually means the subject receives separate coverage in more than one source as presented from different angles. If five reliable sources all report the same thing it is considered ONE source. The subject of this article fails WP:N in those regards. --ARoseWolf (Talk) 18:58, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

I don't believe that she meets the requirements of WP:NACTOR, WP:BASIC or any other relevant criteria.

  • She has an article in Big Time Daily - I've never come across this website before. Is it a reliable source? Seems very, very promotional. It's blacklisted on Gpedia so make of that what you will.
  • [1] - she isn't even mentioned here
  • [2] - it says at the bottom (Syndicated press content is neither written, edited or endorsed by ED Times) so clearly a promo piece
  • [3] - this is identical to the above ref
  • [4] - Glamour is not a major magazine as far as I can tell

Of the three films we have articles on that he appeared in, 2 of them he does not even metrit being in the cast list, and the other one he had a very minor part as well. I see no evidence that even one of his roles was a significant role, let alone the multiple significant roles our guidelines require. • Delete the sources are too poor and claiming she is the best known French porn star of her day sounds like gossip because it can’t be verified. Trillfendi (talk) 15:44, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
your answer just show that Gpedia is Us centric and porn actors from other countries have a higher notability threshold to cross. Her most famous film of the 80s has just been rereleased in Blu ray just on her name. LA FEMME OBJET : re-édition d'un film mythique qui réconcilie fesses et SF Which porn actor from the 80s in the Us could say that. Hektor (talk) 19:27, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
@Hektor: Porn actors have it rough here, period. It’s hard enough finding suitable sources without venturing into Reality Kings. Nobody cares who came from Timbuktu or Philadelphia, notability is the same for everyone, everywhere on here. The PORNBIO notability subject was deprecated, not even winning an AVN award is good enough anymore. If Marilyn Jess had as important a career as you allege you would’ve edited it accordingly. But you haven’t. Trillfendi (talk) 01:34, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Rough translation: A word also on the heroine, Marilyn Jess?

Before this film, Marylin was a young actress who hadn't shot much. Instantly, as soon as the movie came out, she became the new porn star, Brigitte Lahaie having just hung up. Her temper was completely different from Brigitte's, because Marylin was more mischievous, more mischievous and jovial. He's someone we see laughing a lot in the movies, but not in LA FEMME OBJET. The funny thing is that the movie that made her famous doesn't match her character at all. It was a real compositional role for her because she doesn't speak, she has very few expressions. She will remain the undisputed star of X until the end of her career, in 1986.

@Tyw7: As Wikipedians always bring it up during discussions, "the question is not whether or not the article is in good status, right now, but if it can be in good status, later on". Not in those exact words, but still, coverage exists, making her notable as an actress. Horacio Varawanna talk? 21:40, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately I don't see a case for notability here. "One of the first" Punjabi-Indian rappers to break into Canada's mainstream music industry, not "the first", therefore no immediate claim to notability; I don't see WP:NPERSON passed, or WP:NACTOR, and WP:NMUSIC looks also to not be a pass unless someone can bring reliable sources for passing the "the most prominent of the local scene of a city" clause of #7. Keep – as per my comments on Baker Miracle's AfD here. Pearl Baker is in the same category as far as I'm concerned. A quick Google brings up a huge amount of interest in her. Not Marilyn, but her. Dutch Wiki has an even more extensive article on this person. As a media curiosity whose life was flung in the spotlight and books/articles focussed on her life, a nomination to delete based on the fact that she was a relative of somebody who was more known doesn't carry itself as a strong argument in my opinion. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 15:16, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Comment: apologies, I was not aware that there had recently been a discussion on possibly deleting this article, my bad! The thing is, these types of articles tend to attract really, really shoddy writing and sourcing, as well as the type of celeb mythology that has little basis on truth (with just a quick read, I can already spot several sentences I know to be plain wrong). But perhaps in this case it's best to focus on improving the sourcing and delete the really dodgy claims rather than the entire article.TrueHeartSusie3 (talk) 20:29, 11 January 2021 (UTC)TrueHeartSusie3
  • Merge I do not believe being the parent, aunt, or uncle of someone who one day became a cultural icon is notability itself on Gpedia, as the website has policy regarding the concept of inherited notability. In that case, Ludwig van Beethoven’s, Jimi Hendrix’s, Madonna’s, Cher’s, Elvis Presley’s and even Drake’s parents articles are noticeably missing. I’m staunchly against it because it sets a bad precedence (if anyone has come across discussions of Jim and Mary McCartney you’ve seen what I’m talking about). Simply put, unless the relative has had significant coverage for reasons outside of just being related to a famous person, there is no need for it. As we can see, Mrs. Baker was not a notable film editor. Trillfendi (talk) 15:21, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

The article was previously deleted through an AFD process in 2017 as the subject failed to satisfy WP:NACTOR. She grabbed two films since then, one of which is yet to come out per source cited and for the 2nd one, i could n't find any third party, reliable sources that confirm that. Even if there are sources for the claim, she fails WP:NACTOR as hasn't played significant roles in multiple notable films. Umakant Bhalerao (talk) 15:53, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

Dead links do not invalidate sources: run the Internet Archive bot on them, there is a link at the top of the page history. SK2242 (talk) 21:55, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
  • Keep When conducting a BEFORE search using the Internet Archive, there is suitable evidence to pass the notability guideline at the time of the article creation, meaning the subject received SIGCOV in reliable sources over an extended period of time. As notability is not temporary the article should remain regardless of the current status of the subject. Does not meet WP:GNG, WP:BASIC, WP:NACTOR. The article does not have sources showing WP:SIGCOV from WP:IS WP:RS addressing the subject directly and in depth. Sources in the article are promos, "fast facts" style articles, and a Youtube channel. BEFORE showed nothing that meets SIGCOV. Unclear that she passes the GNG or any other WP:BIO criteria given the limited coverage in reliable sources. Morbidthoughts (talk) 02:49, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

  • Keep. It is not apparent that any kind of WP:BEFORE was done, but the subject gets nearly 9000 Google News hits, so it seems unlikely. BD2412 T 03:03, 6 January 2021 (UTC) On further review, there is not enough of intersection between coverage that is in depth and coverage that is reliable to make this worth arguing over. Therefore, redirect to List of Penthouse Pets#2010–2019 (unless details of the ad campaign are added to Adidas Yeezy). BD2412 T 04:21, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
Can you provide specific links to reliable sources that can overcome trivial coverage or WP:BLP1E? I saw a whole lot of clickbait in my previous search. Morbidthoughts (talk) 03:09, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
A raw Google search is not useful for determining notability. In this case, most of the first page of hits are unreliable sources like International Business Times and trivial mentions. Please identify the ones that that provide non-trivial, reliable secondary source coverage to satisfy WP:BASIC. • Gene93k (talk) 03:49, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

Delete this article per WP:TOOSOON and failing all clauses of WP:NACTOR until actor has had significant roles in movie and television. This child actor although having feeble notability for co-starring in Wrinkle in time, he has no other significant major roles out of his so far diminutive 6 credit acting career. This article also relies on a primary tweet source which is strongly repudiated on wikipedia. I believe this actor could have article if he gains more roles in the future and receives better coverage. Alternatively you could redirect him to A Wrinkle in Time. ₛₒₘₑBₒdyₐₙyBₒdy₀₅ (talk) 00:26, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

  • Keep as a stub - I googled his name and NBC, Teen Vogue, Screen Rant, and Rappler have all covered him. The New York Times, Deadline, Rolling Stone, The Boston Herald, Variety, and ABC news all give him bare mentions. That's enough for him to pass WP:SIGCOV. He passes one clause of WP:NACTOR because he's taken roles in "A Wrinkle in Time" and Apple TV's "Home Before Dark". There isn't much potential to expand the article at this time which could be a problem, but he passes the notability requirements, and there are a plethora of reliable sources who've covered him, so I vote to keep VERSACESPACE 03:47, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
@User:VersaceSpace, Can you provide the sources you mentioned so I can check them to see if he didn't just name check in those articles? because name-checking "bare articles" does not fit significant coverage criteria, That literally goes against it as it doesn't cover the subject. And I suggest we should delete this and send it to the article draft for improvements than keep it as a stub using primary sources and a non-detail description. And the first film is good, but Home before dark is just 10 episodes and he's a secondary character. My overall opinion is that this article's creation was too soon because with child actors, they can disappear from acting very quickly and we would want to make sure not to make article like this too soon, especially if it is a stub with a lack of reliable and significant sources. ₛₒₘₑBₒdyₐₙyBₒdy₀₅ (talk) 04:11, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

  • Weak Keep Subjects references do show notability and do not just show passing mentions. Does need major cleanup, but I believe the actor does just, just pass WP:NACTOR and WP:GNG, as I can personally find significant coverage and he has had two main roles in two major productions (Home Before Dark, A Wrinkle in Time). If I am correct, that is passing the point in WP:NACTOR that the individuals proposing deletion believe he doesn't. Coreykai (talk) 13:48, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
  • Delete and send to draft Actor currently does not pass WP:NACTOR with only 6 credited roles with one of them as a co-starring role and the rest as small minor roles which does't warranted current article creation. Actor also fails the other two clauses of WP:NACTOR with no award nominations or significant contributions to the field of acting mostly because he's a child actor. Actor aslo fails the reliable source clause of WP:GNG as the article relies too heavily on a questionable primary source. Most coverage I can find on him is name check mentions from his roles as Charles wallace murry in A Wrinkle in time, content farm garbage articles and Questionable sources which is not generally accepted as a reliable or significant source if the content can not be verified, So delete. ₛₒₘₑBₒdyₐₙyBₒdy₀₅ (talk) 15:05, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

The sourcing is atrocious here, not anywhere near even close to meeting GNG. I also am unconvinced that even one of the roles Lissek had would be considered a significant role in a notable production. I know there are some debates about what is a significant role, well in theory, in practice we seem to just mass create articles on anyone who shows up in cast lists a few times with no thought as to the roles being significant, but these roles are not. The article in its present state, even with my additions, is an incomplete picture of his career. This is often the case in AfDs related to film/television/radio/theatre of the 20th century, especially for prolific actors such as Lissek. Given that she is a recipient of two highest TV/movie awards in SK and HU and one interview mentioned her as "one of the best actresses" in CZ, I think she passes GNG. This article was created by User:Nhl4hamilton, who has many worthwhile contributions to Gpedia (and indirectly to Commons, to which many of his photos have been transferred). However, this article is self-promotional, as the user is the subject of the article (see, for example, the author noted for CentreMallHamiltonCanada.JPG at Commons; there are numerous such examples). Hello Mamushir Thank you for review. I think the subject plays important role in those movies, although she may not be the lead actor. I have also checked other references that show the subject's profile is in strong position to stay on Gpedia. I have also mentioned the reliable sources that confirm this. I am trying to add some more articles of people who have contributed to different fields, I request you to check subject's notability on Facebook [1] and on Instagram [2] Mapd43 (talk) 14:22, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Mamushir, please help me to get this article approved with your guidance so that I can do some more contribution to Gpedia Mapd43 (talk) 14:22, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Drive-by comment (came to categorize) -- Unable to evaluate what is an important role due to lack of familiarity. But I somewhat disagree as to whether the actor has to lead in those films. Yes, I see the policy. Ask yourself however whether with those criteria Albert Hitchcock would be notable as an actor. The article is a bit undue and should be edited for NOTRESUME. However that is an impressive list of films, all of which have their own articles. The article requires limited editing and the subject probably will have many film roles eventually. That said, I have no connection to the subject, but I say why not just prune it a bit. I worry that sometimes editors think that if something was important, they would have heard of it. Elinruby (talk) 23:41, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Elinruby, Thank you so much for your comment and guidance. Your comments makes me understand as to why Mamushir nominated this article for deletion. It is a good idea to follow the guidelines and to prune it a bit as you guided. As Mamushir said, this subject fails WP:NACTOR, removing information that describes this subject as an actress. Really thankful to you and Mamushir for helping to make Gpedia as reliable source of information and also for helping new editors like us who want to do more contribution in near future Mapd43 (talk) 17:02, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello @ Mamushir, as per your feedback and input, I have removed the information that was resulting this subject to fail for WP:NACTOR I hope now this article does not violate Gpedia policy and also delivers proper information about the subject. I request you to withdraw your nomination for page deletion, thanks in advance. Mapd43 (talk) 18:24, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

  • Comment : Unfortunately in Gpedia, we have strict policy for WP:BLP. Narrowing down the discussion to WP:NACTOR, the subject is not at all passing. It is failing WP:GNG as well. Right now, there are 10 references out of 13 references in the article which are from youtube. Mapd43, please see WP:RS and WP:GNG. How much popular a person is in facebook or instagram has no connection with how notability is evaluated in Gpedia. A very popular person who is notable must satisfy WP:N. These being elaborated, the subject lacks enough notability for a separate article. This may be WP:TOOSOON. ☆★Mamushir (✉✉) 06:27, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello @ Mamushir, at this moment the article has no such information where WP:NACTOR is applicable. I completely disagree with you that the subject is not popular. I have done in-dept research and cited reliable sources of news channel websites that mention about the subject with proof. If these reliable websites have released articles mentioning the subject, it is understood that the subject holds strong notability into the Telugu Television world. Instead of focusing on why this article should not stay on Gpedia, as genuine editors, we must focus on why this article should stay on Gpedia. The YouTube videos that are given in reference, are uploaded on authentic and official YouTube channels of those news channels which gives an extra layer of authenticity to the sources presented. Hence, in my opinion, this article is good to go and should be approved Mapd43 (talk) 08:53, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

  • Comment : I request other editors also to get involved in this discussion and contribute to get this article approved. I have seen many other profiles on Gpedia with just 2-3 citations, but those profiles are still approved by Gpedia, then there is no question about the subject profile to get deleted after adding so many trustworthy citations and references. In addition to this, now we can also see the google knowledge panel displaying subject's profile and information. Please refer the screenshot that is attached. I request to approve this article. • Comment: The subject was described in the article as an actress initially, which she does not meet per WP:NACTOR. Now, if she is tried to be presented as a 'TV Anchor' or similar then also we can not get the subject pass through since it basically fails WP:SIGCOV moreover majority of sources are either non RS, or non reputed or have trivial mention about the subject. ☆★Mamushir (✉✉) 08:01, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
  • Comment: Initially I thought this subject's profile is good to go as television presenter and actress, but later with your comment and inputs, I got to know that this subject may not be eligible for actor profile as she fails WP:NACTOR. But she definitely has a strong profile as television presenter which I have noticed in my research and thus, I have included all relevant sources and citations. I totally disagree with your comment that the sources are non RS or non reputed. The subject has got coverage on highly popular and authentic as well as official media websites like Wirally.com [3] , ETV.co.in [4] etc. I have seen many articles that have no strong reliable source, still they are approved and active on Gpedia, for example check article page of Gigi Hozimah [5] If such articles can stay on Gpedia, then the subject's Article must stay on Gpedia as we have added strong citations and references of official websites. • Comment: Mapd43, Please refer to WP:OTHERSTUFF and WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS to understand what kind of arguments are acceptable in a AfD discussion. As far as Gigi Hozimah, she is one among the handful of female filmmakers of Saudi Arabia, being a female filmmaker in a country like saudi arabia is surely something notable enough to be included in Gpedia to which several people have agreed. For more you should read the edit history and the talk page. Furthermore the page underwent a speedy test which was declined just as it should have happened. Coming back to Lahari Shari, she does not qualify as a notable person per WP:SIGCOV. ☆★Mamushir (✉✉) 21:06, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

BLP about an actress who does not appear to have had significant roles, won any significant awards, have a cult following or made unique or prolific contributions to her field. Indeed according to one of the sources cited she now has another job off screen. From what I can see she had a few years of a career on tv, but nothing that passes WP:ENT. Keep She is notable actor. This article meets the WP: ENT policy. She won the Pantene You Got The Look 2008 contest, a national level beauty in Bangladesh. And also received the CJFB Performance Award for acting. She is a well known actress in Bangladesh. And has done many dramas, television shows, stage performances.-Alamgir64 (talk) 07:17, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
  • Delete as no evidence of any notability, Ofcourse I don't speak Bengali so may have missed sources but from what I've seen there only seems to be tabloid stuff. –Davey2010Talk 16:57, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Please don't add vote multiple times which I have strikethrough. Feel free to add new comments but repeating the same point is unnecessary. RationalPuff (talk) 23:00, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
