All at Sea
One of many comedies about eccentric elderly folk that followed in the wake of Calendar Girls and others, it's quite obvious how desperately this wants to be another Waking Ned Devine. But it never comes anywhere close to the wit, humor, or pathos of that far superior film. In fact, it pretty much wastes a good cast. Brian Cox plays Wally, a resident of a retirement home who goes to extremes to honor his recently deceased roommate's wishes to be buried at sea, repeatedly butting heads with the blandly officious home coordinator, Mrs. Reimark. There's a lot of energy expended over very little, making the film more befuddling than touching. There are a couple of decent laughs in it but…
This film felt like in inoffensive old school sitcom. Basically the film is about an old sailor who lives in a nursing home in Norway who wants on honour his dead best friend's wishes and bury him at sea. I thought the film was nothing special , it's the type of film your grandparents would like.
Comedy about some unconventional folks trying to bury their mate at sea. It’s ok but also pretty predicable.
This was 28 years(!) in the making. It'll take me another 28 years to recover from the 28 minutes I could stand to endure.
I give it half a star because I'm drunk right now.
