Elliot Oliver Robertson Rodger[1] † (July 24, 1991 – May 23, 2014 [aged 22])[2] was an English-American YouTube vlogger known for killing six people and injuring fourteen near the campus of University of California, Santa Barbara in Isla Vista, California before taking his own life on May 23, 2014, and also known for being widely considered the founding father of the modern incel movement.[citation needed]

Early life[]

Rodger was born in Lambeth, London, England, and moved to the United States with his parents when he was five years old.[2] He was raised in Los Angeles. His father is British filmmaker Peter Rodger, whose credits include working as a second unit assistant director for The Hunger Games, and his own feature-length documentary film Oh My God. His mother is Li Chin Rodger, a Malaysian Chinese research assistant for a film company. A younger sister was born before his parents divorced. After his father remarried, he and his second wife Soumaya Akaaboune, a Moroccan actress, had a son together. Elliot Rodger's paternal grandfather was photo-journalist George Rodger.[2]

Rodger attended Crespi Carmelite High School, an all-boys Catholic school in Encino, Los Angeles, and then Taft High School in Woodland Hills. He graduated from Independence Continuation High School in Lake Balboa in 2009. Rodger briefly attended Los Angeles Pierce College and Moorpark College before moving to Isla Vista on June 4, 2011. He attended Santa Barbara City College (SBCC). In his manifesto, he said that he dropped out of all his classes in February 2012. The school said he was no longer taking any classes.[2]

The massacre[]

On May 23, 2014, in Isla Vista, California, Elliot Rodger killed six people and injured fourteen others near the campus of University of California, Santa Barbara, before taking his own life. The attack began when 22-year-old Rodger stabbed three men to death in his apartment.[3]

Afterwards, he drove to a sorority house and shot three female students outside, killing two. He drove to a nearby deli and shot to death a male student who was inside. He began to speed through Isla Vista, shooting and wounding several pedestrians and striking several others with his car. Rodger exchanged gunfire with police twice during the attack, receiving a non-fatal gunshot to the hip. The rampage ended when his car crashed into a parked vehicle and came to a stop. Police found him dead in the car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.[4]

Before driving to the sorority house, Rodger uploaded to YouTube a video titled "Elliot Rodger's Retribution", in which he outlined details of his upcoming attack and his motives. He said he wanted to punish women for rejecting him and to punish sexually-active men for living a more enjoyable life than his.[5]

After uploading the video, Rodger e-mailed a lengthy autobiographical manuscript to approximately a dozen acquaintances and family members. The document, which he titled "My Twisted World", was made available on the Internet and became widely known as his "manifesto". In it, he described his childhood, family conflicts, frustration over not being able to find a girlfriend, his hatred of women, his contempt for racial minorities and interracial couples, and his plans for what he described as "retribution".[2]

Personal life[]

Elliot Rodger posted videos on YouTube about how he couldn't get girls and how life was unfair. Elliot Rodger's father, Peter Rodger, is one of the secondary directors of "The Hunger Games" (the first film adaptation in the book trilogy of the same name, with the third book adaptation being split into two films).[6] His parents knew he had mental issues but, he never got any help for them. Elliot Rodger's YouTube channel did not get popular until he had convicted murder. Elliot is also very rich and he thought that since he was rich, all the girls would want to get with him. He also wanted to lose his virginity really bad. None of that ever happened and that is what led up to the Isla Vista Massacre.[citation needed]

According to his family's attorney and a family friend, Rodger had seen multiple therapists since he was eight years old, he was diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified, an autism spectrum disorder, in 2007.[7]

Valtharion Hack[]

In late 2022, Elliot's original YouTube channel, Valtharion, would get hacked. The hacker would upload a video called "Why do anime girls love him so much?" on October 28, 2022.[8] The channel and video is still up today.
