      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

There's a certain amount of fun to be had from watching Bateman and Reynolds play against type, but it isn't enough to carry The Change-Up through its crude humor and formulaic plot.

Person 1 I really enjoyed it. Good comedy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Dinos K So, Ryan Reynolds was acting like Deadpool since....his entire career?? Also the movie was boring with unfunny humor Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/13/24 Full Review Cash S The Change-Up is a solid enough comedy. The whole concept is actually pretty interesting, with this being Freaky Friday as a raunchy comedy. I love Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman, and their brand of humor, so it was pretty great to see them together. There are actually some pretty big laughs in here, and even a couple of heartwarming moments that were nice. The problem with movie is some of the jokes. They try to go for some really dirty and gross-out humor, with a baby shooting poop into Jason Bateman's mouth, or the filming of an adult film, and I just feel like it goes too far to where it's not even funny, it's just plain gross. The movie also isn't the most revolutionary film, and you can kind of predict where the movie's going. I feel like this movie is one of there movies where it gets better as it goes on. The first half has a lot of the gross-out humor that didn't work for me, and then it's nice to see our two leads grow in the second half. At the end of the day, this still a pretty consistently funny film, even if some of the humor didn't work for me, and although it doesn't break any new ground, this is still an enjoyable enough comedy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review evempire Hated it, within 2 minutes, the child nudity was abhorrent and the main character had already gotten poop on his face and mouth which sums up the whole movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/24 Full Review nancy s RR is crude and unfunny. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Miles B This movie was recommended to me. I was skeptical at first - ANOTHER body-switch movie? But I'm glad I moved past my initial reluctance. This movie is hilarious from start to finish. I will probably watch it again in a few years.
