Jaclyn Narracott first World Cup winner from Australia, Mirela Rahneva comes third
St. Moritz (RWH) The first World Cup victory for Australia and the premiere for the Netherlands in terms of European Championship title and overall World Cup victory in women's skeleton: The final of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2021/2022 in St. Moritz will go down in sporting history in several ways.
Kimberley Bos from the Netherlands entered the sports history books as her nation's first overall winner at the World Cup final of the Olympic season. At the same time she won - also a first for an athlete from the Netherlands – the gold medal in the classification of the race as Skeleton European Championship.
However, the World Cup victory in St. Moritz went to another athlete. Jaclyn Narracott from Australia celebrated her first victory in the race series and the first ever for Australia in women's skeleton. The 31-year-old was 0.06 seconds ahead of overall World Cup winner Kimberley Bos (NED) in second. Third place in the World Cup went to Canada's Mirela Rahneva in St. Moritz, 0.66 seconds behind the winner Narracott.
European Championship silver medal went to Janine Flock (AUT), who finished fourth in the World Cup ranking. For the Austrian it is the tenth European Championship medal in a row since 2013, the 32-year-old won European Championship gold in 2014, 2016 and 2019.
The bronze medal at the Women's Skeleton European Championships in St. Moritz went to Valentina Margaglio from Italy. The 2020 World Championships bronze medallist in skeleton mixed had the best start time in both race runs and finished fifth in the World Cup standings.
The overall winner of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2021/2022 is Kimberley Bos (NED, 1600 points) ahead of Janine Flock (AUT, 1481) and Elena Nikitina (RUS, 1458). Nikitina, the 2021 European Champion, finished eleventh in St. Moritz.
