Heard had previously told Marie Claire in 2015 that she would love to have children. At the time, the actress was a stepmother to then-husband Johnny Depp's kids, Lily-Rose and Jack. She told the magazine that being a stepmother was "an honor and the greatest, most surprising gift I have ever received in my life … I feel new flavors that I didn't know existed. New colors that I didn't know existed have been added to my life. I'm so happy."
Years after The Rum Diary costars split in 2015, Heard decided she wanted to have a child. Introducing her daughter in July 2021, the actress wrote: "Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms. I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way."
She continued, "I hope we arrive at a point in which it’s normalized to not want a ring in order to have a crib. A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this."

According to Page Six, the Aquaman star named her daughter after her late mother, Paige, who died in 2020. Heard paid tribute to her mom following her death with a post on Instagram that read: "I am heartbroken and devastated beyond belief at the loss of my mom, Paige Heard. She left us too early, clasping onto the memory of her beautiful, gentle soul. She will be missed from the very depths of our hearts forever. Her unflinching, open heart made her the most beautiful woman I had ever known. Friends revealed to Page Six that Oonagh was born via surrogate after Heard was "told she would never be able to carry her own baby."
“The most important thing for Amber is that she’s open about Oonagh’s birth,” a source shared with Page Six. “There are so many women who feel they can’t talk about their fertility and are worried and embarrassed; Amber wants them to feel supported and realize that there are a multitude of ways to have a baby even if you have fertility issues.”

Who is the father of Amber Heard's daughter?
The actress has not revealed her daughter's paternity. Fans have speculated whether one of Heard's famous exes, Elon Musk, could be the father. Back in 2020, the Mirror reported that it was claimed the actress and billionaire were "locked in a legal battle over her frozen embryos."
Jennifer Howell, who was said to be a friend of Heard's sister and mom, claimed, “Paige told me.... she was in a legal battle with him over the rights to embryos they had created together. He wanted to destroy them, and Amber tried to keep them to have a baby.”
