Eliza Shepard is a recurring character on The Messengers. She is portrayed by Jennifer Griffin.

Biography[]

Eliza Shepard is a Messenger from the sixth generation. She had the gift of visions, as Joshua does this generation.

Season One[]

In 1.03 Path to Paradise, Peter Moore overhears someone singing Amazing Grace in the car park. He approaches the person who turns out to be Eliza. Moments later the Police arrive and Eliza watches as Peter is arrested.

In 1.04 Drums of War, Eliza is seen in front of an electronics store pushing her shopping trolley. Looking solemn, she moves a red bead on the top row of her abacus before flicking through her book which has photos of the Messengers . After seeing footage on a television in the electronic store window she smiles and moves two blue beads on the second row of her abacus.

In 1.05 Eye in the Sky, Eliza speaks to Peter in the Library. She tells him she wasn't doing well until she saw him but now God is helping her see clearly and that he needs to do the same. Eliza mentions there were Messengers before and that they must follow the signs.

In 1.08 A House Divided, Eliza tells Joshua she had the same gift he has. She speaks of getting the gift as a little girl and how upset she was about being chosen and how frightened she was of the visions. Eliza's group of Messengers were successful in stopping the horsemen and she tells Joshua his group can stop them, too but they must work together.

In 1.09 Death Becomes Her, Eliza shows up at the Messengers house, surprising Nadia, Peter and Erin. On learning Erin had surgery, Eliza tells the group something is wrong. Once the seven Messengers reunite the cost of their gifts should go away as a reward for finding each other. Eliza was part of the sixth generation of Messengers called at the end of World War II. She admits to Peter she no longer has her gift of visions and that they took a toll on her mentally. When the Horsemen were trying to break the sixth seal her Messengers were able to stop them but it wasn't without cost, many of them died. Shortly after Amy screams in her sleep and the group goes to check on her. They see her bed covered in drawings which appear to be prophetic. Eliza tells Erin that Amy has been touched with a gift of her own. Eliza notices a drawing of Rose and asks who she is. Erin and Peter tell her Rose is a Messenger with the gift of understanding. Eliza realizes Rose is an imposter and that's why they are still experiencing the costs of their gifts. Peter tells Eliza everything about Rose and they realize Rose broke the first seal seven years ago on April 6, 2008 and she is in fact the Horsemen of Death.

In 1.12 Spark of Hope, Eliza runs into Joshua at Christopher Dayton's grave. Christopher was the healer in Eliza's group and he saved her more than once. Joshua says he was drawn to the grave by a vision and Eliza tells him about the Trinity atomic bomb test which was their fifth seal broken seventy years ago. Eliza suspects Joshua's vision means the Horsemen are about to break their fifth seal. He tells her about seeing the Antichrist in his vision and Eliza says Christopher thought this day might come and that everything has changed. The Man arrives at the cemetery and steals Eliza's book filled with Messenger secrets. Eliza sits waiting on a bench as The Man approaches. The Man tells her he found his protege, the Antichrist, thanks to her book. He asks her to decipher the information in the book and she refuses to help him. Eliza flags down a passing car and asks for a lift. The people in the car turn out to be Jeff and Kay Fairburn who kill Eliza, suffocating her with a plastic bag.

Physical Appearance[]

Eliza is medium height with shoulder-length grey hair. When first seen she is in quite a bad state, struggling with her mental health after being a Messenger.
