Yesterday brought the sad, sad news that The X Factor's spin-off The Xtra Factor is to be taken off air.

ITV bosses have made the decision to axe the show after 12 years in attempt to embrace the future with a digital spin-off.

V next-gen, eh?

Speaking to The Sun, a source has said: "The Xtra Factor has had an incredible run on TV but the producers have realised they need to keep up with the times and move with the audience.

"The majority of young X Factor fans are now consuming the show's extra content via social media, on the official app and on YouTube, where the clips reach millions of people."

They also added that the decision to cancel the TV show had nothing to do with Rylan Clark-Neal and Matt Edmondson, who presented the last series.

"It's nothing to do with Rylan and Matt. They did a great job and if the show was continuing on TV they would definitely be returning."

It's thought the duo will not be following the show online.

A spokesman for ITV confirmed the news last night, explaining: "We have taken the decision to move away from a linear switchover show and instead focus our efforts on our digital platforms, in support of the main show."

SO, we thought we'd take a moment to look back at all the hosts of the show there have ever been, EVER.

Ben Shephard

Xtra Factor

Ben Shephard was the original Xtra Factor presenter, landing the job when things all kicked off in 2004. He presented the show from series 1 to series 3 in 2006. During his time on the X Factor spin-off, Kate Thornton was presenting the main show. We literally cannot believe this was 12 years ago.

The original judging panel of Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell remained unchanged in these first three years too.

Winners: Steve Brookstein, Shayne Ward, Leona Lewis

Fearne Cotton

Xtra Factor

2007 brought about a few changes to The X Factor. Dermot O'Leary replaced Kate as the show's presenter and Dannii Minogue joined Louis, Sharon and Simon on the judging panel.

Straight outta Children's TV, a fresh-faced Fearne Cotton also took of over the reins from Ben and began presenting The Xtra Factor in series 4. Fun fact: Fearne also presented _The X Factor: Interactive DVD Gam_e in 2007. Who knew?

Winner: Leon Jackson

Holly Willoughby

Xtra Factor

Fearne passed over the Xtra Factor presenting baton to her good pal Holly Willoughby in 2008. Series 5 also saw a shake-up the judging line-up when Sharon was replaced by Cheryl Cole.

Holly hosted The Xtra Factor for two years and has since gone on to become a daytime TV legend as presenter of This Morning alongside Philip Schofield.

Winners: Alexandra Burke, Joe McElderry

Konnie Huq

Xtra Factor

TBH we totes forgot Konnie Huq ever presented The Xtra Factor, but it turns out she did in 2010. We literally only associate her with Blue Peter and that time she was the first one to be kicked out of Celebrity Fame Academy LOLOL.

Winner: Matt Cardle

Remember this awks moment?

Caroline Flack and Olly Murs

Xtra Factor

Series 8 brought about another judges' shake-up and this one was pretty big. Show creator Simon Cowell left the panel and was replaced by Take That singer, Gary Barlow. Gary was also joined by NDUBZ' Tulisa AKA The Female Boss, Kelly Rowland and, of course, Louis was still hanging on in there.

Dermot remained presenter of the main show, but Caroline Flack and Olly Murs landed the job as co-presenters of the ITV2 spin-off. They hosted the show together for two years, but in 2012 Kelly Rowland was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger on the judging panel.

Winners: Little Mix, James Arthur

Caroline Flack and Matt Richardson

Xtra Factor

In 2013 Olly Murs sacked in the Xtra Factor job and left Caroline Flack to soldier on without him. She was also joined by comedian Matt Richardson.

As well as Olly, Tulisa also left the show and was replaced by X Factor original Sharon Osbourne on the judging line-up for series 10.

Winner: Sam Bailey

Sarah-Jane Crawford

Xtra Factor

In 2014 former E4 and MTV presenter Sarah-Jane Crawford replaced Caroline and Matt for series 11 of The Xtra Factor. Oh and guess what, there was also ANOTHER change to the X Factor line-up.

Simon Cowell returned and brought Cheryl with him, Mel B also joined and Louis was still hanging about.

Winner: Ben Haenow

Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom

Xtra Factor

OK so series 12 was probably the most contro X Factor series ever. The line-up transformed again (apart from Chezza and Simon) and saw Radio1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and singer Rita Ora as judges.

This was also the dark, dark year DERMOT O'LEARY LEFT THE X FACTOR. He was replaced by Caroline Flack and Olly Murs as the show presnters, while Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom took The Xtra Factor job.

Winner: Louisa Johnson

Rylan Clark-Neal and Matt Edmondson

Xtra Factor

Let's be real, series 12 was a bit of a disaster so Simon Cowell had to pull out the big guns in 2016.

Series 13 brought back X Factor OGs Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, who joined Simon and Nicole Scherzinger as judges. And DERMOT O'LEARY CAME BACK WOOOOO.

Two new hosts, Rylan Clark-Neal and Matt Edmondson, took on The Xtra Factor role and were quite frankly hilarious.

Winner: Matt Terry
