Pete Townshend – Who Came First

Sounds very nice here on the Classic 200 gram vinyl reissue.

Once owned a Japan promo of this LP that came with an additional black and white full size poster (folded) with more of the Townshend and Baba imagery. Sold many years ago and I have never seen another copy.

This version is a 1983 Germany reissue and should be either eliminated or merged with the other version for this same release.

This is a lovely, low-key debut from Townshend, with a DIY homespun charm similar to Paul McCartney's self-titled 1970 release. "Nothing is Everything (Let's See Action)" is fantastic, I like it better than The Who's version. Townshend's vocal on "There's A Heartache Following Me" is beautiful. No complaints about the pressing, the music is more folky and lo-fi sounding than most of the Who's material from the early 70's, and the guitars sound great on this record. My copy has a bit of surface noise and a couple of pops.

I include this in my 2nd tier of Who favorites. (After 'Quad. & 'Who By Numbers')

If 'Whos Next' was a 2LP, many of these tunes would be one it.

It’s a close tie between which of Pete’s albums I like the most: While I find Empty Glass particularly good, I also adore Who Came First, and really enjoy the folk feel it has to it. This is a nice copy as well; mine is very clean and plays with little crackle, if any. Just another great album by Mr. Townshend.

Another round of rummaging led me to find this still sealed, surprisingly sounds good.

this was an exclusive us reissue back in 1992 that came with 6 bonus tracks in a special jewel case.... this edition is the same us disc BUT for the japanese market wich means this includes an obi strip that matches the cat # on the cd & booklet, also this comes with a japanese inner sheet and original replicated poster in a booklet style that came with the original 1972 pressing of this record!!!!! this pops up from time to time w/ the obi but not often, it was one of those rare exports to japan back in 1992 as the record companies in japan did not print this on cd until years after 1992.. THIS NOW 30 YEAR OLD DISC SOUNDS GREAT!!!! good bonus tracks as well...

Wonderful NZ pressing - still sounds amazing after 50 years

this is quite a scarce 1983 BRAZIL only reissue of the 1972 townshend solo debut who came first, i have the original 1973 brazil issue wich is very nice & i am most happy with BUT this is the 1983 reissue that was released in 1983 on an obscure label in brazil at this time 40 years ago called ATLAS RECORDS......... some dealers in brazil as well as other south american countries have said this reissue from 1983 is more scarce then the brazil 1973 original issue.... anyway im very pleased to have BOTH now.....
