Whitney M. Young Magnet High School Reviews
Rating 4.17 out of 5 1,203 reviews
I would say that Whitney Young High School is a school worth attending. Throughout my several years here, I have taken many classes much broader than my middle school experience and have met many people with whom I have formed meaningful relationships. Whitney Young still has faults like any other, with subpar school lunches and unsupportive or educational teachers, but it can surpass this overall with its effort in other areas like student activities, curriculum, college access, and overall support. I believe Whitney Young has room for improvement and would love to see more effort added, but my high school experience was an important and enriching one.
I have attended Whitney M. Young Magnet High School for six years now, being accepted into their academic center for 7th and 8th graders. I can full heartedly say that Whitney Young is a place where students can best develop their passions and find what they are really interested in, whether that be in the arts or sciences.
The culture regarding academics has always been generally top-notch, with students striving for the best grades they can. Collaboration is frequent among the student population, fostering connections and friendships that last for years on end. There are some teachers who are irritating to deal with, but those who genuinely care about their students are simply a joy to work with.
The administration can seem out of touch at times and the food is sloppily put together, but I can say for sure that this is one of the best high schools in the state of IL.

I believe Whitney M Young is a very wonderful school, yet it could be improved in numerous ways. Firstly, issues with security, as there has been reports of homeless people entering the school.
Secondly, the teachers that are paid accordingly do not deserve it, as they fail at providing decent planning or teaching in their subjects. For example, my English III teacher isn't very good at teaching the class and focuses more on humor and being relatable.
Also the school food could be 10 times better if it was storaged properly, as a lot of food has been dealing with freezer burn and essentially becoming spoiled. The milk smells rotten, but states that it's still fresh on the carton. This could probably be due to underpaid lunch workers.
All in all, it's an okay school.
