Whitchurch High School

Year 10 & 11 Subject Information

Our year 10 and 11 curriculum is designed to meet the needs of individual students, allowing them to maximise their progress in core subjects and have flexibility in deciding their option subjects.

The curriculum at Whitchurch High School is made up of the following core components delivered over a two-week timetable:

  • Mathematics x 2 GCSEs
  • English x 2 GCSEs
  • Science x 2 GCSEs
  • Welsh (1 GCSE over 3 years)
  • Philosophy and Ethics (Short Course – ½ GCSE)**
  • Sport and Exercise (non-examination course)
  • Wellbeing (previously Tutorial)
  • Relationships, Wellbeing and Health.

**Any student who opts to follow full course Philosophy and Ethics (previously Religious Studies) will study an alternative short course or equivalent subject. The remaining curriculum time will consist of 3 option subjects selected by each student. The option grid will be made available to students and will appear on this section of the website when it becomes available in February.

All students at Whitchurch follow a programme of guidance and support to ensure that they are following an appropriate and individual leaning pathway which matches their aspirations.
