The Point System
every job is just numbers, it’s capitalism, you only matter if your a billionaire

i hope there are, i’ve never found one yet
There are, but they're mostly smaller businesses. Major corporations tend to have much stricter policies regarding calling off and pretty much everything else.
Work a 9 to 5. I love PTO. I have 20 days I can take off a year. Doesn't matter what they are for, pleasure, sick, something important I've gotta do, etc.
Google.
Dude you sound like me before I left lol. Now I work at a pharmacuetical company, they let me go negative to for mental health (per my doctor) so I could get paid
I think you're describing the entire retail sector. Seek out an actual career and you'll be treated more like a human who does not solely exist to enrich someone else.
My managers are willing to excuse things sometimes it seems. They have excused me for school before. It's not that I had class during my scheduled shift - just a ton of homework and like 4 tests over 3 days that weren't finals
Man, I need to try using school as a reason to get out of shifts. There are times where I have to work four days in a row before a series of exams and I just know I'm screwed.
That was exactly how I felt
I agree.
I can't afford a dr. when I am sick, so I can't get a sick day excused.
Geriatric here. The truth is the only people who hate the point system are the people who are habitually late. They are always 6 or 7 minutes late or can’t get back from lunch within 35 minutes. If you had less of those you would not care if you received points for something serious.
I am guessing you are one of those folks who always has to know where you are at points wise to see if you can afford to call off the next day. Or to see how long it will be before some of the lates drop off. Most annoying quality of some of the folks I have worked with.
You have gamed the system for 10 years. Congrats on that I guess.
“If you had less of those you wouldn’t care if you received points for something serious.” Gotta disagree there buddy. Regardless of any other points that people may/may not have, everyone should be concerned that points are being given under serious circumstances. No one should be punished for something out of your control, a car accident for example, whether they normally “play the system” or not. I’m late here and there. I freely accept those points, they’re absolutely my fault, and the consequences of them are solely my responsibility. But if I wake up in the morning to a flat tire, that’s not something I could control. I wouldn’t want my coworkers with perfect attendance to be marked for that anymore than I’d want it myself. That doesn’t serve to punish the lazy, it (prime example here) just slowly wears away at the people loyal enough to stick around 10+ years, till it drives them out and then what? They’re replaced by a kid who does play the system and guaranteed doesn’t know/care even a quarter as much as the guy that got drove out.
After reading your post I agree I should have phrased that better. Maybe something like “upset enough to flame the company on Reddit”. I still don’t think we agree but at least I feel better about my phrasing. 🙂
You sound spoiled, entitled and foolish.
.
You lump thousands of people into one single category?
We must all be gaming the system?
.
I am a responsible, honest, hard-working adult.
I don't like being punished for being too poor to see a dr.
So, yes, I must say that I hate the point system.
Pretty safe assumptions I feel. Seen it way too many times. Chances are you played yourself. You were working the system for a while and now something serious happens and it’s put you in bad spot points wise. So you come to Reddit to cry the blues.
I have a feeling your GM/HR know this as well.
Cmon bro this is ridiculous. Family deaths are obviously excused- if you’re in a car crash you’re already taking pics of damage for insurance… and no if you call off without a note it’s 3 points but just go to the dr and get a note. Then it’s 0.
