i thought outside few chapters , its actually mediocre to bad game , with awful pacing, writing and gameplay , level design , combat encounters and just overall logic of the game . Not to mention that awful performance and really uneven llook.

Second one might not be as unique or bat shit crazy but its actually competent horror game that is a lot more focused

I actually came into the game as I thought it went for the Silent Hill approach. Not RE.

It went for a "let's copy every popular survival horror game trope and aesthetic" theme actually. The last chapters also played more like RE5 and RE6 than anything too.

Evil Within 2 is one of the best games this gen

It was released last-gen though. šŸ˜

The game peaked in the village for me.

Same. Although I don't agree that the second game is better overall. It's mechanically more sound and actually more fun to play around in, but it's also trivially easy if you bother with stealth at all, and the world itself, while much more coherent, is also rather boring.

I think both The Evil Within games are amazing, I actually tried part 1 on PS3 like 7 years ago, but it felt off playing it, so I decided to try it again on PC this year and couldn't put it down. I wish part 2 was better optimized for PC, but playing them in high fps and resolution made them feel so much better.

I think the theme of the games is great, there was no better way to set it up like that while keeping some sort of realism which I enjoyed instead of random monster appearing in real life. Also, there is nothing scary about them though, just a little tense when you are low on ammo.

I think tve story being absolute dog shit really soured me on the game. Everything was so cryptic that it just became meaningless, also the fact that the game kinda becomes a bad arena shooter in the end didnt help. It did exactly what Resi 4 did except without the charm, story or characters. TEW1 is super intense in the beginningbut all the horror has been lost before the halfway point.

Dont skip on TEW2 though!!!

Whole game was nerv wracking for me. You had to conserve ammo all the time and there were lots of wave-after-wave encounters where you pretty much used all your ammo. A few of these encounters had been enough, not the whole game full of em lol. It was an ok game, just not my up of tea.

The last 5 chapters are fucking agonizing and relentless. I almost quit at the city level multiple times

Yeah, iI actually found myself becoming more irritated the farther I got in. The sequel is much better.

I want to love both of these games so much. Really! But they both have awful awful shooting, and yes, you do an awful lot of that.

Part one? Zoom in so you can't seem shit when you aim and the fov is so tight it disorients me from the environment.

Part 2? Move the stick in a circle, aiming reicule moves in a square. It's the most baffling aiming control I've ever seen. I've never experienced anything else that loves the x and y axis so much.

Didn't find either TEW1 or 2 scary, but both were quite solid. At some point I'm going to cleanup the last few achievements I have to get in TEW2, then I may go back and get them all for 1.

I disagree, but I do see where you are coming from. Once you get an idea of what is happening a lot of the tension fades away. The game is perplexing in a really intriguing way at first. When the pieces come together, you start to lose that.

Generally speaking, I think the first game is crazy underrated.

Any game were you're running and gunning isn't scary; at all.

Eventually, you become the thing the world fears.

Like every Resident Evil game. You start hopeless and outgunned, and end up going full commando at the enemies in the last few chapters.

The sequel was genuinely a way better game. Better presentation and pacing. WAY more coherent art direction. Better acting and writing. A story that actually had some emotional meat on it's bones. And honestly it put a neat little bow on the series. On top of the gameplay feeling more responsive and punchy.

The first one genuinely never seemed anywhere near as scary as the WoM led me to believe.

man, the sequel is great but I have to recommend trudging through the first game cause elements of the plot hit way harder if you played the first game

Not everyone can appreciate greatness.

Play 2 if you wanna see everything that makes the first game unique just gone.

TEW 1 is one of the best under appreciated gems this generation. The sequel is worse in almost every way. Itā€™s weird how one game in this series in totally underrated and itā€™s sequel very overrated.

TEW 1 felt like RE4-2, though not as polished. TEW2 felt like a worse less polished TLoU. TEW 1 was genuinely great.

Despite liking 1 a lot more than 2, I understand why most people prefer the sequel, it's a safer, easier game in its design, it has less difficulty spikes and a more consistent pace.

I hope we get a third game in the series that mixes the strenghts of the first two in a successful manner, that would be a truly special game.

I'm probably in the minority on this but I actually prefer the first game than the sequel. That match stick mechanic in the first game alone already added some strategic depth that the sequel doesn't have. The sequel also has very poor shooting mechanics. For some reason I can't do a headshot with a shotty from one meter away. It's stupid.

Imo the game kinda got boring half way through but then picked up by the end. And the dlcs were fantastic. I love both those games so much. Still sad we never got any dlc story stuff for 2.

I donā€™t agree about the getting more boring because I had a great time throughout but I definitely agree with the less scary part.

The thing is though, isnā€™t that kinda every survival horror with weapons? Like with resident evil for example I always save magnum ammo then by the end I have so much I kill everyone fast af, I did the same thing in evil within so the end bosses all died pretty easily even on hard.

I'm coming to terms with the fact that its my all-time favorite game, despite its myriad of problems.

I think the game is strong early on, has a dip around the turret guns chapter and then is at it's best around the middle part. Whichever chapter it is with all the spinning blades and Towering Terror music is my favourite part of either game

The arena shootouts towards the end drag it down a bit but I thought it was a great game overall, better than the sequel
