Disneyland vs. Disney California Adventure Park?

I've been to and love Disneyland, but have never been to Disney California Adventure Park. Is the California Adventure Park just as big as Disneyland with regards to number of rides and such? I think what I'd really like to know is how much time is needed for the California Adventure Park in comparison to Disneyland. I know at Disneyland, I'd be there from the opening rope drop till the evening fireworks, and there's plenty to keep us busy all day and evening. But, I am not familiar with the California Park. If I were at the California Park when it opens, is there enough to keep me busy all day and evening?

I'd like to try the California Park but if I only have a day, would hate to miss out on a day of Disneyland. Maybe I should get a pass that permits access to both? But, if I do that, I may not be giving enough time to each Park?

Thanks, I appreciate the information on this matter.

I would get a Park Hopper.

They key is when are you going and what are the hours that day. DCA tends to open later and close earlier than Disneyland. There are cool rides and shows there, as to whether or not it is enough for you is a hard thing to gauge.

But in having a Park Hopper you can selectively choose which rides you want to visit in each and get Fast Passes in each park to help manage your time.

California Adventure Park has somewhat less rides, but they have in the last year improved that Park and added a whole new land Carsland which is worth a visit just for that now Imo.

Usually its suggested 2 days for Disneyland and 1 day for California Adventure Park, but it really depends on your interests.

The two Park entrances are located directly across from each other with an area inbetween them, so its easy to hop back and forth to each Park, you can really think of them as one big Park.

Whether or not you want to get a 1 park per day ticket or a Parkhopper is really up to you, but I think it gives much more flexablility to you to get the Parkhopper ticket.

When is your visit for? Fireworks can be only on the weekends in some months, Fri,Sat,Sun as well as the Fantasmic show. There is usually a nightly World of Color show in California Adventure Park.

If you have only one day, go for Disneyland. :)

If you only have a day, I would suggest the 1 day Parkhopper, which will allow you much more flexability. Or just go with the 1 day ticket to California Adventure Park, theres enough there to keep you busy for a day.

I would recommend the Park Hopper - Cali Adventure is a 1 minute walk from Disneyland.

If Disney gets crowded - you can hop over.

Plus the "cars land" is in Cali Adventure - and looks exactly like the movie in every tiny detail; has a few cool rides and has life size cars (Mater, Lightening McQueen, etc.) that roll down the street, pose for photos & talk/ interact.

Cali Adventure also has (highlights):

- California Screamin Rollercoaster

- Little Mermaid Ride

- Tower of Terror

- Monsters Inc ride (great for little ones)

- Soarin' over California (fun virtual ride & good for a cool down)

- Grizzly River Run (water ride)

- Toy Story Midway Mania! (always popular 3-d target shooting ride)

- a vast "old boardwalk style area w ferris wheel & lots of rides for the younger kids

- A Bug's life area w lots of rides for younger kids

-World of Color show - HIGHLY recommend

DCA is now considered a one day park, with plenty to do and see, including lots of shows with the biggest being World of Color. If you miss elements of Disneyland, you would be better off getting a one day park hopper than to regret the decision not to. I have read that you can upgrade from a one day one park to a parkhopper during the day, but I am not quite sure on that. Upgrading means going to a ticket booth and paying the difference, which, of course, will take some time away from the park experience.

Another idea, if you are going to spend a night in Anaheim, go to Disneyland Park the evening/night of check in and DCA Park the next day. You could use a 2 day one park ticket or one day one park and one day parkhopper. If money is an issue, just go with the one day parkhopper.

I do agree, though, that when you are going is key.

A word of caution. I don't want you to get the wrong impression from an above post. Use of the word Cali to indicate the word California is offense to many Californians. Some don't care. Some think it is cool. But is generally not well received by a majority of Californians in conversation.

Similarily, shortening the name that Walt Disney gave to his park from Disneyland to Disney can put off some fans of the park or locals. It is also doesn't make sense, since Disney California Adventure Park is the park that begins with the name of Disney. As with Cali, some people don't care what you say, some think it is cool to shorten the name. The majority are likely to think you are using the wrong word and/or think you are a frequent visitor to Walt Disney World - or are thinking of the company as a whole and not of the unique park, which is Disneyland.

Yes, you can get a 1 day 1 Park ticket, and if you change your mind during that day, you can upgrade it to a 1 day Parkhopper ticket, so that may be a good option as well.

I love DCA but like the others I would get the park hopper ticket. If you can go to DCA once the sun has done down I think it's really very pretty especially the cool Neon in Cars Land. We could see the Disneylandfireworks while in line for Luigis tires too, and the World of Colour is amazing!!
