Amazing building, astonishing frescoes
Mar 2019
Located right next to Parma’s Romanesque Cathedral, the Baptistry is a wonderful sight from the outside, all shimmering pink marble if you see it in sunlight. But it’s the interior that will take your breath away. The frescoes depict biblical scenes but in a refreshingly informal style, not following the chronology of the life of Christ, the Virgin or anything else. The dome is gloriously decorated but it’s the reliefs below it showing the months of the year and the relevant signs of the zodiac starting with March to mark Christ’s conception and ending with February, which are the highlights. Visiting here was a hugely rewarding experience.

Do not miss!

Although the cathedral is the main draw, the baptistry is a jewel that should be missed. Buy the tickets at the nearby museum across the plaza and enter into a remarkable space. It is huge inside--the whole building is one expansive interior. The outside is worth admiring as well, with wonderful relief sculptures from the Middle Ages.

From the middle ages comes this magnificent bapstistry, incredible ceiling and frescoes, a huge baptismal font carved from one piece of stone.

Beautiful

What a beautiful Baptistery! The town is a small town, but what a beautiful jewel they have in the Baptistery and Cathedral. The work in both is unbelievably. How lucky they are to see that type of beauty everyday.

The second most beautiful religious building in Parma (after the Duomo) Beautiful octagonal shape, with white and pink stone. The frescoes inside are amazing and depicts various religious moments of the Bible.

Amazing

This baptistry is still in use today. The outside is made of beautiful pink marble but when you enter it you will see the real beauty. The walls are covered with beautiful frescoes. There are so many wonderful details. We had a guide that gave a mini lecture about all of the significant frescoes, statues, etc. It's worth paying someone for the tour. There is fee to get inside.

An underrated Baptist
Sep 2018
The baptist reminds me of the leaning tower of Pisa. What you see outside is not what it looks in the inside. I would highly recommend you to have a look at the inside. The flat roof from the outside hides a dome inside. The painting on the dome is simply Devine. Find a day when it is sunny. The light shining through the narrow windows has a stunning effect on the paintings.

This place is stunning from the outside ( despite the scaffolding). It is made from pink marble and it is truly amazing. But you must buy a ticket to go inside because here is where the true treasure lies. The walls and ceiling are covered with the most incredible art work. Don't miss it!!

Very interesting

The architecture and paintings inside this bapistry are very interesting. The bapistry itself is pretty cool the way it's set up. Hard to believe special buildings were built just for this purpose. We had a guide which made it better, not sure it would have been as interesting without a guide, there didn't seem to be much information to get on your own.
