Here are the top stories today in Roanoke:

  1. One person has officially died after contracting hepatitis A from Famous Anthony's, a Roanoke-based restaurant chain. Roanoke City and the Alleghany Health District announced that an adult with underlying health conditions died of complications from the virus, and confirmed the deceased became infected at Famous Anthony's. An ongoing local outbreak of hepatitis A has sickened more than three dozen people who ate at one of the restaurant's three locations in recent months. (KIRO 7)
  2. The Peacemakers organization and Bishop J. L. Jackson put together a "Stop the Violence" march on the northwest side of Roanoke this weekend to show solidarity where many members of the community have been lost to shootings. The recent increase in local homicides has led community members to take a stand and raise awareness about these violent deaths. Organizations in attendance said they will continue to find new ways to help find a solution to violence in the community. (WFXR FOX)
  3. Rockydale Quarries has painted one of its Roanoke-based haul trucks purple to raise awareness for pancreatic cancer, a disease that claimed the lives of two former Rockydaleexecutive leaders from the family that founded the company. (WDBJ7)
  4. GO Fest, an annual autumn event traditionally held on the fields at River’s Edge, wrapped up a successful first year in downtown Roanoke this weekend. (WDBJ7)
  5. Monterey Elementary School recently received a generous donation from Rack Room Shoes, which provided nearly $4,150 worth of new shoes to students. (Roanoke City Public Schools)
