ORIGINAL STORY

Despite Roanoke’s efforts to reduce gun violence in the area, the community saw a weekend of violence in the Star City. Within just 12 hours, there were three separate shootings that left one dead and sent two to the hospital, according to the Roanoke Police Department.

The shootings started on Saturday night and lasted through early Sunday morning. One happened on Williamson Road near Dollar Tree, which resulted in a man’s death, and then another two on Eden Drive NW and Melrose Avenue NW that sent two men to the hospital.

The series of shootings started on Saturday at about 7:25 p.m. when police were called to the 3300 block of Melrose Avenue NW for the report of a person who had been shot. The City of Roanoke E-911 Center told police that the man was on his way to the hospital. He eventually stopped at Fire-EMS Station #5 for help and was then later taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital by Roanoke Fire-EMS.

Authorities say he had what appeared to be serious injuries.

When police arrived at the 3300 block of Melrose Avenue NW they didn’t find any evidence; however, they found evidence of a shooting on the 1000 block of Peck Street NW that led them to believe that this is where the shooting happened.

About five hours later, at 12:30 a.m., police were alerted about another separate shooting. Police were called to the 4800 block of Eden Drive NW and were told that shots had been fired.

As police headed to the scene, they were told by the City of Roanoke E-911 Center that a person who had been shot was currently at the 2000 block of Gandy Drive NW.

Officers rerouted to Gandy Drive and arrived to find a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Authorities say Roanoke Fire-EMS transported him to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police say they later determined that the man had been shot on Eden Drive. They added that details are limited at this time given that the victim did not cooperate.

The final shooting took place on Williamson Road and left one man dead, authorities report.

Police were called to the 3100 block of Williamson Road NE at about 5 a.m. for the report of shots fired.

While officers were responding, the City of Roanoke E-911 Center alerted police that there was a person who had been shot at the scene.

Officers arrived to find a man with a critical injury outside of a house in the area. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Police have not yet released the identity of the victim given that his family hasn’t been properly notified.

According to authorities, no suspects were located and no arrests were made in any of the three shootings as this remains an ongoing investigation.
