One of the most relentlessly dour, boring, unpleasant films I've ever seen, and it doesn't even do you the courtesy of having a point after making you slog through 159 minutes of runtime. Booooooo.

On rewatch this was toxic and depraved.

idk why I thought this was gonna be on some NWR shit but it was more like a Daily Wire student film. conservatives make good art challenge (difficulty: impossible)

The amount of modern directors who are completely incapable of doing anything interesting with their camera is genuinely astounding. Pseudo-auteurs who shoot everything in the most basic coverage, leading their work to look like a youtube short film. How the likes of Zahler have been able to have this much success as a filmmaker is beyond me. He has the same level of understanding of the cinematic medium as a nine-year-old with a camcorder.

Jesus Christ I can’t even fully read my last review on this movie, what a fucking idiot I was in 2018. This movie fucking sucks. I checked out so hard in it tonight too. Good.
You watch something like Thief last night & then you watch this shit.
You know what?! Just do yourself a favor and watch a Michael Mann film even if you’ve seen it a hundred times before. He’s great & actually knows what he’s doing.

I USED to be a piece of shit.

A decent premise that’s marred by distracting Microsoft Word right-click—>Synonyms-ass dialogue and flat, undeveloped characterization. I don’t mind morally ambiguous or unlikeable protagonists but Jesus, for something that’s almost three hours long, at least give them some depth or nuance. This should have been 90 minutes tops.

it's like if South Korean crime filmmakers remade TAXI DRIVER with Americans. but it's also overwrought: over-directed, overwritten, and over-cast. we don't need Fred Melamed, Udo Kier, and Vince Vaughn in this. Michael Jai White is cool and all, but he doesn't do much either. this is such an unwieldy project and like 12 scenes could have been cut. I know S. Craig Zahler's whole thing is that the scene of the characters talking about bathtubs in BONE TOMAHAWK is…

A terrible piece of crap start to finish.
