Ford Bronco Warthog Will Be Called Ford Bronco Raptor After All

We’ve known for some time now that Ford is planning an ultra-high-performance variant of the all-new Ford Bronco, and that this model will either be called the Ford Bronco Raptor or Ford Bronco Warthog. After Ford Authority reported some exclusive details about this more hardcore Bronco last fall, we soon spotted the very first prototype. Shortly afterward, Ford trademarked the “Warthog” name, leading many to believe that the model would in fact be called the Warthog, a fact seemingly confirmed by a prototype we spied with “Warthog” written inside the wheel well followed by a leaked supplier letter.

However, Ford Authority exclusively reported earlier this week that the Bronco Warthog will likely launch with a different name. And now, sources familiar with Ford’s product plans tell Ford Authority that FoMoCo is leaning towards using the Raptor name on the upcoming Bronco range-topper, which will join the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ranger Raptor in The Blue Oval’s Raptor family of high-performance off-roaders. Furthermore, our sources also tell us that the Warthog name was floated around purposely as misdirection.

Naming this vehicle Bronco Raptor makes perfect sense and goes right along with the desire by Ford leadership to utilize established, well-known names on its products. We have recently seen this direction with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 Lightning, which are brand new vehicles bearing nameplates that already come loaded with history and name recognition.

As Ford Authority exclusively reported back in March, the Ford Bronco Raptor will be powered by Ford’s 3.0L EcoBoost V6, currently found in theΒ Ford ExplorerΒ ST andΒ Lincoln Aviator. In that guise, it is rated to produce 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. It will be joined by a hybrid model, expected to be powered by the same 3.0L EcoBoost V6 and electric motor combination present in the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring, which produces 494 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque. Both powerplants will be mated to Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Bronco Raptor will also feature the same types of upgrades present on existing Raptor models, including Fox Live Valve shock technology, 17-inchΒ Ford F-150 Raptor-like wheels, LT315/70R17 BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A tires, a wider stance than the regular Bronco, unique front and rear fascias and bumper treatments, higher ground clearance, all of whichΒ will help it catch serious air as a proper Raptor should. Plus, it will have “Ford” lettering on the front grille.

We’ll have more on the Bronco Raptor very soon, so be sure andΒ subscribeΒ toΒ Ford Authority for more Bronco Raptor news, Ford Bronco newsΒ and around-the-clockΒ Ford newsΒ coverage.

That’s stupid. It is already confusing enough Ford likes to name two completely different vehicles the same name (bronco mustang). Now they are going to have 3 different raptors. I guess they need to make a an electric expedition based Full size Bronco Lightning Raptor with an optional Sport package, the newest member of the mustang family.

I don’t think so. Raptor is there top of the line high speed off road equipment group. Warthog sounded hideous to me. F-150 Raptor, Bronco Raptor, Ranger Raptor….what’s so hard? Now calling the off road Escape a Bronco Sport? That has confused plenty of people…

Going to have to agree here. I own s raptor not an f150. I’m the raptor guy. It sounds cool, it differentiates. Now if you are a raptor owner the question is did you buy the real raptor or the ranger one.. not sure what to do with the by the bronco. Bronco R has balls..

That’s unfortunate, the bronco warthog sounded awesome and since the vehicle is reminiscent of the warthog in halo, it would have worked really well. Cant say my interest hasnt been taken aback from this change but I’ll wait to see it when its revealed.

I liked Warthog as a name for the Bronco raptor. Missed opportunity to have that spelled out on the grill. Dont know why people were comparing it to the A10 warthog. The bronco raptor is closer to a a muddy hog in the forest than it is a dive bomb strafing war plane. i do get the argument some people have made about the double animal names. Sort of strange, but not uncommon for ford (Mustang – Cobra for ex) had a pony snake, could have had a pony pig.

GaryB, I get what you are saying but the original Mustang was named after the P51 Mustang of WW2 fame. So in a strange way, in Ford Tradition, the A10 would make sense. That is the first thing that came to my head when it was going to be called the Warthog. πŸ™‚

Really? The F150 Lightning is a completely different vehicle with the same name as another? It has a completely different power train and all that goes along with that, but it’s an electric F150.

Lot of people on here getting bent out of shape over a name, lol. I could care less what they call it as long as it’s not the Bronco Fairlady, haha. This is nothing new with FORD. After all we had the mythical beast, Mustang-Cobra! Mustang body with a cobra head on it. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜

Is it going to be cool or a pos, that’s all I care about!
