Nick Grimshaw, known to his listeners as Grimmy, hosted the Radio 1 Breakfast Show for six years between 2012 and 2018.

He took over the role of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show host from Chris Moyles in 2012, who held the position since 2004.

Announcing his decision to step down from the role, Grimshaw said he was ready for a "change and a new show."

In an emotional statement issued at the time, Grimshaw said: "It was always my dream to do the breakfast show and I'm very grateful that I got to live my dream every day for what will be nearly six years.

"But six years is a long time and this isn't a forever job. I had the time of my life. I've decided it's time for a change and a new show."

Speaking to The Mirror, Grimshaw opened up about the other reasons behind his departure from the Breakfast show.

He revealed the move would benefit his personal life. He said: “It does send you a bit mad and sort of becomes your life because everything you are watching and consuming each day you are trying to produce content for the next morning because you can’t do it before 5am."

Grimshaw added: "I saw Fiona [producer Fiona Hanlon] who used to work with me and said, ‘have you had Botox? You f***ing have’ and she said ‘I have not, it is just going to sleep I swear to God’.

"I was feeling and prodding her face, but it was just sleeping. I am looking forward to waking up like a normal person.

"The breakfast show was the only thing I set out to do in life which I have completed. Six years has got a nice ring to it and it is long enough."
