Best electric guitar blues instrumentals??

Question

Think along the lines of Born Under a Bad Sign or Once I Had a Woman by Hendrix. No vocals just rad electric guitar blues riffing.

Hideaway by Freddy King and covered by Clapton.

u/fingerofchicken avatar

The whole album "Let's Hide Away and Dance Away." Solid gold.

I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan explain the differences between Clapton‘s version and kings version. it was a master class and blues guitar.

Allman Bros - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed

Great insight and I LOVE this song, but it really hits more jazz conventions rather than blues IMO. It has a lot of major and minor 7 chord shapes that you see often in jazz.

It was written by Dickey, and you can find countless interviews of him describing the jazz influence.

Allman brothers rip it on One Way Out and Statesboro Blues. The slide guitar is loud and proud along with a lot of heavy dose of blue notes and dominant sevenths. Although these songs rock hard and are up tempo, they hit those blues conventions nicely!

Love ABB and music theory 😜

Yes I am pretty familiar with the ABB. Yes, One Way Out rips. OP asked for blues instrumentals. Yes it’s jazzy. But I got Dickey on my brain lately and Jessica seemed too happy.

u/dua70601 avatar

Yeah, I agree. I was thinking Jessica too, but it is full of country thirds and has that kind of happy river song feel.

I got one more silver dollar, brutha!

Good luck and have fun!

I'm no expert, but I like Steppin' Out from John Mayall with Clapton.

Maybe more of a stretch, but I also like Satch Boogie by Joe Satriani. I mean, it's a shuffle and has turn arounds, right?

u/ManReay avatar

Cream's version of Steppin' Out from Live Cream Vol. 2 is epic.

One of the most addictive ‘blues’ instrumentals I’ve been listening to lately is “Aint that the truth” by J.R. Walker and the Allstars. An absolute jam and a half.

Albert Collins - Ice Pick

Out of the blue by John Petrucci

u/cooltone avatar

Skellington - veers into rock a bit, but definitely rips. Solo starts at 2.25 and worth the weight. Play loud.

Jigsaw Puzzle Blues by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac

Alchemy - Philip Sayce

Not sure if you can save or bookmark threads like you used to be able to so commenting to save.
