About the Author

Nora Ephron was the author of the bestselling I Feel Bad About My Neck as well as Heartburn, Crazy Salad, Wallflower at the Orgy, and Scribble Scribble. She wrote and directed the hit movie Julie & Julia and received Academy Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay for When Harry Met Sally. . ., Silkwood, and Sleepless in Seattle, which she also directed. Her other credits include the script for the stage hit Love, Loss, and What I Wore with Delia Ephron. She died in 2012.

Am a published author and am about to begin a new writing project and what better inspiration than this complex movie! And it is complicated. The timing alone is noteworthy and the dialogue is something to study and learn from. Nora Ephron is/was a gifted writer of the highest order. What a treasure this is and what a great read this script version is too. Something you can pick up and enjoy in one sitting and see it all over again. The Meg Ryan, you can hear her and see her. So wonderful!!!!!

I read this in under 2 hours, and some reviewers complained that that's not good value for the money. From my perspective, at $10 that's a dollar an outright laugh, plus several bonus chuckles and smiles, so it was well worth the price. My leisure time is very limited so I appreciate a little concentrated fun! Others complained that it's not written as a screenplay, but I just wanted an enjoyable book to read, plus I liked Nora Ephron's commentary on how she put the story together with Rob Reiner.

I was fascinated to learn the history of how the movie was conceptualized. This alone makes it well worth the price. It's a must have for fans of the movie.

I have always loved the movie When Harry Met Sally and watch it about once a year. It's nice to have this book by the writer. The dialogue is clever, the characters are realistic and the humor is wonderful. We all know a Harry or Sally! It's a great romantic comedy by a talented writer. It is great to have the book to refer to if you want to look over a certain part from the movie in detail. It is short, but that's the whole story!

Of all movie genres I would have to say that Romantic Comedies are my favorite. And of all Romantic Comedies, WHEN HARRY MET SALLY is by far the best ever. Two people never hated each other more in the beginning. Then we soon learn that two people were never more right for each other. If you haven't seen it yet, you are in for a treat.

I know enough about the creative process for WHEN HARRY MET SALLY to look at this script with a bit of skepticism.

Much of WHMS was ad-lib. Specifically Harry’s funny “Pecan Pie” voice and the “Win Lose or Draw” scene. But both are in this book verbatim.

Also the end of the film was reshot and workshopped until the end. It’s here verbatim.

Deleted scenes are on the movie’s blu-Ray. None are in this script.

I really feel that this is a transcript of the movie in script form. Perhaps they wanted a novelization but screenplay notes are faster than prose. Either way this feels like a hollow cash grab

Save for two things...Nora Ephron’s introduction to the book has some tidbits about the script development not included in any commentary or featurette. Second, Ephron’s stage notes reveal one or two character motivations that may take people off-guard...even if you can recite the whole film (as I just about can)

Those couple things are worthwhile. But the rest of this book...just watch the movie again instead.
