The sixth and final season of Sex and the City aired in 2003 and brought the main characters' story arcs to an end. Season 6 was filled with major events, unexpected turns, and predictable changes of heart. While it wasn't considered the show's greatest season, it achieved the highest viewership - more than 10 million people watched the finale in the U.S. alone.

While certain story acts felt forced and dragged out, others brought closure. Season 6 evokes nostalgia to this day and it is considered a masterpiece by most fans, especially when compared to the Sex and the City movies. The ladies were as charming, funny, and fashionable as ever, sticking together through thick and thin.

Letdown: Samantha's Silly Storylines

At the beginning of season 6, Samantha's character was often wasted. In "Boy, Interrupted," for example, she faked being British to get access to a fabulous pool in SoHo House.

Samantha was never petty, so it was sad seeing the writers butcher her character like that. The only thing good about the episode was David Duchovny, who guest-starred as Carrie's long lost love.

Perfect: Charlotte And Harry's Love Story

Charlotte and Harry went through some ups and downs in the final season of Sex and the City. In "Hop, Skip, and a Week," they realized they loved each other and the wedding preparations (luckily) didn't take half a season. The wedding was small and intimate, nothing like her first.

It was really funny to see Charlotte struggle with Harry waltzing around her fabulous apartment naked. These two had great chemistry together and it was nice to see Charlotte get what she always wanted: a wholesome marriage.

Letdown: The Introduction Of Aleksandr Petrovsky

Aleksandr Petrovsky and Carrie Bradshaw

There are barely any fans out there who shipped Petrovsky and Carrie's relationship and want to re-watch their episodes. He was insufferable from the very start and it was obvious that the two had nothing in common.

It was a shame that the last major arc of Carrie's was dedicated to a man nobody really cared for. It would be better if she were single or just casually dating.

Perfect: Samantha Found True Love

Samantha and Smith out on a date in Sex and the City

Just when she least expected it, Samantha found true love when she met Smith. Their relationship was one of the most healthy on the show and they gave each other freedom and each had their own fulfilling lives apart from their relationship.

Samantha never let a man take care of her before, so it was nice to see her let her guard down with Smith. He was an amazing support system during her fight with cancer and he appreciated her for exactly who she was.

Letdown: Charlotte's Pregnancy Struggles

Charlotte went through a major transformation in the show. She faced one challenge after another, mostly because of the expectations she put on herself. First, she was fighting to find a man, and then to save her marriage. She had to go through a divorce and she gave up on her career only to see her struggle some more in season 6.

Charlotte had a miscarriage in the final season and she ended up contending with a dog she called Elizabeth Taylor. It all turned out great, though. Charlotte is now a mother of two, so hopefully, she won't have to struggle as much in the revival.

Perfect: Samantha's Battle With Cancer

Samantha Jones won at life whenever she was confronted with a challenge. When she found out she had breast cancer in the final season, she did what she does best: she held her head high and braved the storm.

Samantha's cancer arc was incredibly emotional and inspirational and her breast cancer benefit speech was one of the most memorable moments in the entire season: "Bad enough I lose my hair, now I have my face running down my couture ..."

Letdown: It Didn't End In New York City

There were not a lot of episodes that weren't set in New York City in Sex and the City. Whenever they happened, they were refreshing to watch, but since the city itself could be considered just as much of a main character as the ladies, it was a bit disappointing to have the series end in Paris, France.

Perfect: Carrie's Immaculate Style

Season 6 featured some of Carrie's best outfits. She looked more mature and elegant, even though that doesn't necessarily mean she acted any different than before.

In previous seasons, Carrie often wore quirky outfits, and even though she wore designer clothes, she often missed the mark and looked pretty ridiculous. Season 6 was an exception: she continuously looked like someone who knows fashion, inside and out.

Letdown: Carrie Ended Up With Big

Sex and the City Carrie and Mr. Big

Fans are divided over the ending. Some think that Carrie getting her happily ever after with Mr. Big was the only right way the show could end, while others fumed over the fact that Carrie clearly hasn't learned a thing in her life, ending exactly where she started.

Many fans felt that their relationship was toxic. Big's emotional unavailability made Carrie anxious and her preoccupation with him drove him further away.

Perfect: Miranda Got Back Together With Steve

Steve attempts to kiss Miranda with foam on his nose in Sex and the City.

Of all of the men that Miranda dated, Steve was always the best. He accepted Miranda just the way she was and truly loved her in the purest sense possible.

Even though the handsome and kind Dr. Robert Leeds didn't deserve to be dumped the way he was, it was ultimately a great thing that Steve and Miranda got together and it was great news for Brady too.
