Apifolia / Lo-Fi or Chillout / Comments appreciated

Hello everyone.
I've been playing a bit with FL again and this is the result. I would really appreciate it if you could listen to the piece and give some helpful tips. Thanks in advance.

That’s nice! If I were to make one suggestion (personal preference), I would make the intro melody more minimalistic. I feel a few sparse notes here and there would flow better than a continuous string.

I really like the Melodies after the vocals.

I’m just a FL hobbyist, but your track sounds great to me! :D

Thank you very much chipps. Your preference sounds logical to me. I will try that.

Nice one.

The snare is nice but is kind of ruining it for me. Don't know why, but you could dirty it up and maybe low pass it a little bit.
Your track could afford to be louder without sacrificing any dynamic range. And more bass.
Here is a nice chill lofi reference to compare. But I also disagree with them, that I think this genre shouldn't have strong dominant snares.

Hi Asunder. Thank you very much for your advice. It means a lot to me as I'm slowly getting to grips with this wonderful genre. Every good tip helps me.
I'm not satisfied with the snare/rim yet either. It all still sounds too little like lo-fi.

I made a few changes to the track based on the tips from Chipps and Asunder.

Edit: Don´t know why FL made this mp3 such so long without any notes after the end of the track...

Beautiful. 😃

For the export length, on every project I put start and end markers to tell the render engine where to render to.
Right click and choose the purpose: "Marker Loop". Yes, that means end, even though it couldn't be more of an absolutely fkn retarded name.
I guess End doesn't mean End over in Europe. I wonder what their road stop signs look like.

I wish you would fade in the rain for a bit to get the mood before the instruments. And fade out the rain more softly too.

In this version, only the length of the rain shower and the length of the mp3 have been changed. A small but nice change. :)

Asunder: You seem to know a bit about this style of music. What do you think about vocals? I think my track is a bit "naked" without them. But they're actually frowned upon in lo-fi, aren't they?

The reason for the lack of vocals is consider the application. LoFi is usually a go-to genre to put in the background when doing a focus intensive task like studying.
So that's why this picture is the quintessential LoFi caricature.
LoFi Girl.jpg
LoFi girl studying, with some soft rain on the window, headphones on, soft lamp lighting.
Sometimes she has her feet up. Sometimes she's in a spaceship or something. Or the scene is some futuristic semi-formal computer center.
LoFi Computer Room.png
But always sets the mood for reading, paperwork, or something like that.

So the human mind picks up human speech a lot more than anything else. Vocals in chill music tends to distract people away from what they're doing, because your consciousness picks up on the fact that someone is communicating with you and the mind is trying to process what they are saying. Making it harder to do their task; the opposite of the point of putting on the music. To have a background sound, like how elderly people put on the tv for some background ambience, to make it feel like their nest isn't empty. Making people feel a certain way is the secret to music.
Do a test for yourself. Put on a YouTube video of somebody talking and try reading something. The two information sources conflict with each other.

But your vocals work in this track. I wouldn't take them out if it were me.
Have a browse around my Chillwave music playlist.

Thanks again for all the helpful feedback! @Asunder: At the moment, i am hearing in your playlist at youtube. It´s not the "classic" lo-fi list, but very inspirational.

Have uploaded the track to soundcloud:

Ya, I couldn't figure out what to name it so I just called it Chillwave. I think you can save it to your own channel if you want, to bookmark it.

Me and one of my best friends Tommy used to play that playlist when framing. He moved away to be a firefighter. 😭
