Top ways to experience Prague Castle
The area
Address
Neighborhood: Hradcany & Letna
Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.

Amazing Castle - Don't miss it if you visit Prague
This was the best part of our trip to Prague. The castle exhibitions are worth the price. However, be careful with the other paid exhibitions. We went to the hologram exhibition, which we found a bit overpriced, but it couldn't ruin the fun time we had in the castle itself.

One of the main attraction in Prague
The castle is one of the most known places in Prague, therefore a little bit crowded. You can visit the old castle, the entrace fee being included in the basic tour ticket. Here you can find more about Bohemia's and Moravia's history, about the kings who ruled this region and their lineages and many more interesting stuff.

    Half day at Prague Castle
Wow! Incredible gothic cathedral, huge castle and charming little houses at the outer bailey. Spend at least 4 hours minimum to explore so you won’t have to rush. I spent an hour inside the cathedral staring at the magnificent dome and stained glass windows! Don’t forget to visit the old tower of the castle where they display all kinds of medieval torture implements.

    A Magical Castle Indeed!
We so enjoyed our visit here. The external architecture is beautiful and well preserved, but the inside is the best feature of this historic marvel. If you can, try and get a guided tour of the inside. The tour we had through our Viking River Cruise excursion was simply amazing. It included a wonderful meal in a private dining room, a private classical concert, unobstructed city views from a private balcony, and access to the many treasures on display in the castle, including some private areas dedicated to the royal family. Trust me, the cost will be well worth it!

    Museums within the Castle
Just walking the grounds is awesome. Our second day we went to see within the churches and museums. Our favorite was the #2, The Story of the Prague Castle. The displays and artifacts rival those we saw at the National Museum. Maybe better. Both of these museums need better signage to inform you of what you are seeing. Some of them are on glass that is hard to see. Some are placed low so that you must crouch. Some plaques are in such dim light one cannot read. These are antiquities which should be fully appreciated. Disappointing. Hint: get the audio aide, as it would supplement the poor signage.

    Beautiful buildings
We did skip the line but didn’t need to as no queues to buy tickets. Very good experience, got the 22 tram as stops right near the castle so not as much walking, you do lots when you get in. Cathedral very impressive.

What an amazing day spent here. It didn’t disappoint. Would recommend getting the tram which stops right outside. Bought beat the line tickets. Saw everything we wanted to. Such an amazing day. Just stunning.

One of the top 10 places to visit in Prague
Really interesting castle and cathedral, cheap if compared to UK prices for similar places, could improve on signposting and crowd control. The Zlaty Ulicia / Golden Lane is a narrow street with tiny shops and one way in and out, which was very crowded. We didn’t go into most of the buildings because we couldn’t get inside. Given that your ticket is scanned prior to access, it should be quite easy to control how many people are allowed in at any one time and we did not visit in peak season. Lovely views from much quieter, more pleasant South Gardens

Beautiful castle with great view towards the City
We stayed in the Old town and crossed the Charles Bridge over to the Castle. The walk was about 20 min - towards the castle are mostly uphill and steps, but do-able. The grounds are lovely. We didn’t go inside the castle but only wandered around the grounds. The are some food stalls and even a Starbucks near the Castle entrance!

    Fairy tale Prague
Prague castle, which looked more like a palace, had a lot more inside than expected. The design of the cathedral was spectacular, the other end of the castle/palace had the "changing of the guards". While it was free to stroll thru from one end to the other, an entry fee was imposed for certain parts

This must be one of the main attractions of Prague, but avoid visits on the weekend where crowding makes the visit unpleasant and less easy. Entry into the perimeter of the castle is free, provided you pass a metal detector check. To visit the interiors you need to buy a ticket, choosing from various routes depending on which structures you wish to see. The cheapest route includes all the most interesting places (cathedral, main visit to the castle, golden lane), the most expensive routes are not necessary unless you have a lot of time available (2-3 hours). Pay attention to the closing time in winter as it shuts quite early.

Well worth the trek or tram right up the hill for some visual splendour. Views across the city are a delight of their own with Pragues countless spires gracing the horizon.

Inside the castle walls it is free to wander the courtyards. A fee is required if you want to visit any of the buildings such as the grandiose St Vitus Cathedral. Don’t be fouled into thinking the ‘Golden Lane’ counts the grounds as this now requires a ticket to enter also. Beware that arriving early means you can beat the crowds and get those people-free photos however, not all the attractions within the castle may be open yet.

Each attraction is well worth the money to see each in greater detail, we arrived around 8am however St Vitus Cathedral didn’t open until much later (not the same time as the ‘Golden Lane - 9am etc). Be sure to check opening times before you go to avoid time-wasting if you’re short on time with all other attractions to see.

The Prague Castle Citadel is a must see if you are visiting Prague. You can go around parts of the citadel and St Vitus Cathedral for free but need to buy a ticket to enter the cathedral fully and any of the other buildings and Golden Lane, where there are craft shops among the historic buildings also trying to get you to spend money. The ticket prices vary depending on which buildings you choose to visit.
St Vitus Cathedral is beautiful but you cannot sit on any of the pews to take it in, reflect for a few minutes or even pray, as they are all roped off, even though this is still a consecrated place of worship.
You have to pay to use any of the loos even if you have bought tickets, except if you have bought food or drink in one of the cafes then you present your receipt at their loo - but be warned if there are more than one of you make sure you go together as your receipt is valid only once and you will have pay again. Also the toilet attendants seem to have been selected for their surliness!
The loos and cafes do not take cards only cash, the local currency and euros for the loos and local currency, euros and US dollars in the cafes. Pay in local currency if you can as the exchange rate is not always up to speed.

Prague castle is absolutely beautiful and in such a cute area! It's really nice to walk around in the winter and has some beautiful views of the city. The information plaques they use aren't very informative as they've used a clear background and white writing, although it looks nice it's not practical because of the lighting and reflectiveness of the information boards so if youre interested in finding out about the castle's history without the hassle a tour guide might be a better idea.

Some rooms were overcrowded as they'd let too many people in at one time which was unpleasant, if there was better management of this it might work better but overall a nice area for half a day out. Also recommend checking out the cafe within the grounds, they serve a very tasty beef goulash if you need to escape from the cold in winter!

This is a must if you're visiting Prague. The buildings are beautiful both inside and out, and it's a perfect half-day dose of culture. The grounds are free to enter and have a wander round (it may look ticketed from afar but these are merely security checkpoints), and there are a variety of reasonably priced tickets that allow you entry to different buildings over the space of two days. Would recommend doing it all at once and spending the rest of your time exploring other parts of the city.

Tip: walk round to the north side to skip long queues - we saw so many people queuing at other entrances and we walked straight in without having to wait!

The castle is situated on the top of a hill so it can get a bit hard to walk but there there are busses that can take you up there. We ended up walking up the old castle stairs. There was a bit a line to get in due to the security station checking bags. After that, you could just head in.
The castle itself is free to get into and wander but you pay entrance fees to the different buildings inside the castle including the St. Vitus Cathedral, the building that is visible when you look towards the castle. You could get tickets by the Cathedral itself. We ended up just walking around the castle area and looking at the buildings, which were all quite nice. There was a Christmas market at the time so we ended up getting lunch there.
It would have been better to get there early to avoid queues if possible. It also gives you plenty of time to look around the castle itself since that area is also quite large.

It is easy to see why this has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage site. The architectural magnificence of the buildings is obvious, as is the rich history of the place. The entrance is free, but to get in to places like the St. Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane, Old Royal Palace and St. George's Basilica, you have to buy a ticket. The changing of the guard is a sight to see, as is the beautiful panoramic view of the city of Prague from outside the Castle grounds, and inside. To do justice to the place, one needs at least a whole day. Crowds are usually significant in number

Prague Castle is, in fact, a large complex of buildings that is at the moment the place from where the Czech President rules the country's destinies. Being such a vast complex, visiting all of it can mean a lot of time and a significant amount of money for access tickets in all places. We chose the B circuit which, for 250 Czech koruna, allowed us to visit St. Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace, Basilica of St. George and Golden Line. We spent here more than half a day admiring architecture, works of art and learning important aspects of the history of the country and its capital city.

We decided to walk to the castle which was an experience in itself. A steep climb up numerous steps requires some energy and stamina but the views afforded of Prague made the effort worthwhile.

Arriving at ten to the hour we caught the changing of the guard which in all honesty wasn’t much of a sight. The more elaborate ceremony is at midday and is worth watching.

Early mornings are usually the best time to visit as the visitor numbers are lower but it’s still busy with numerous tours meandering about.

I would also recommend buying the audio guide otherwise half the site will remain a mystery.

The cathedral is absolutely stunning and we spent a good hour inside as there is so much to see and a lot of history to absorb. Outside of the cathedral there are several smaller churches and government buildings each with its own history.

Included in the tour is the Golden Lane, again steeped in history and giving a real insight into the lives of residents in the past. Unfortunately our desire to visit the gardens was curtailed by a heavy thunderstorm.

Basic tip is that it will take far longer than you think to see everything, allow at least a 3 hours. There are some cafes inside so you can get refreshments and pleasingly they are the same price as outside the grounds.

There are different types of entry tickets which include different parts of the Prague Castle for you to visit. I would say that the castle itself and the cathedral are the main things to visit. The castle is very interesting with a lot of history, authentically medieval objets and the cathedral is simply gorgeous. I personally also loved the roman-style basilica (st. georges' basilica) situated next to the cathedral. The street of small colorful houses depicts different areas and style of living, and include the house of Kafka; definitely a must see!

I recommend walking around the district where the castle is located, it’s gorgeous and full of interesting museums. Besides, the view from up there is pretty nice!
