What travelers are saying
- ccriderYVRVancouver, Canada3,610 contributionsWe never miss a visit to Beacon Hill park when we are in Victoria. It’s a great place to walk about and also encounter peacocks, ducks, owls and lots of squirrels.
Spring time is beautiful with all of the flowers and trees blossoming.
You can connect to the beach and walk and explore for some time if you want.Written April 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. From the Legislative Buildings, to the Empress Hotel framing in the Harbour, the beauty of Victoria is there for you to take in. The constant life in the harbour, from seaplanes taking off, to the people enjoying a stroll to the boats going on the water, you really enjoy the views and life downtown. Being so close to other attractions and restaurants makes the Inner Harbour a natural place to begin your Victorian adventure!Written March 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RobertMJThompsonVictoria, Canada756 contributionsThe Terry Fox van is in the building. Make a quick trip to the foyer w/o going anywhere else. Have an emotional moment with a piece of true blue Canadian iconography. The restored van that was used to accompany Mr.F. and his team across this country. More artifacts to come I hope.Written April 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- tdsuperstarToronto, Canada18,762 contributionsHad a great tour with Ryan, the architecture and history of building was brought to life. The forty or so minute tour really makes you appreciate the effort it took to get the building built, but at the same time recognizes that it was built at a different time, using different labour laws and taking advantage of a native family. The free tour is worth every moment. The gift shop is also well priced and has some good food offerings. Learn some history, learn about democracy, enjoy the grounds and restaurant!Written March 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AeronauticalEngineerIrvine, CA1,774 contributionsThis is a beautiful castle with a ton of history. You walk up 4 levels of stairs and each level has rooms that are part of history. This is a self guided tour a d the garden in front is beautiful. Nice place to visit and spend 2 hours or so. The castle is about 15 minutes drive from the main harbor.Written April 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tdsuperstarToronto, Canada18,762 contributionsFisherman’s Wharf is just another great part of Victoria to check out. Lots of restaurants to choose from. I’d love to see the area on a weekend when there would be many more people and businesses open. It was a quiet Wednesday when I was at FW, we enjoyed the views and uniqueness of the area. I know we’ll be back!!Written March 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Micha SEverett, WA3 contributionsHighly highly recommend this place! We went as a family of four with two young kids and had such an amazing time. It’s great for all ages. My kids were entertained as many booths were interactive with buttons to press, and my husband and I were just in awe of how spectacular the displays are.
It was educational and you see history unfold as you walk past the booths and see what life looked like in different eras. Then there’s the fantasy / fairy tale sections that were just amazing and worth geeking out on.
Many places you go once and call it good with no plans of returning to make time for other touristy spots to visit next time to come back - this wasn’t one of those for us. We fully plan on coming back and taking friends and family with us when we return to Victoria. We can’t wait! This place is a big YES to visit!Written April 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Travel25346533585168 contributionsTruly Magnificent Old World Dining. We enjoy visiting the "Empress" whenever we have been in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
It is on Vancouver Island, strangely Vancouver is NOT on Vancouver Island..
The Hotel is 1800's Class back when people travelled in High Style by Raiway.
The Food was excellent and the servers were professional.
So tired of Canadian servers saying "No Worries" like the just stepped off a Crocodile Dundee Movie.Written March 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David F19 contributionsThe walk (self guided) through the gardens is wonderful and full of beautiful plants of different sizes and shapes, all compressed into one acre in a residential area. The history is better laid out in the web site, but both the husband and wife were interned during WWII in quite different places and different circumstances. They had known each other before the war. They met again after thinking the other had died, and married and spent their time building their garden and their house. The house is quite revolutionary for the interior design at the time (see the dining room pictures) and being in the house is a mixture of pure domestic matters (period tiling in the bathroom), modern for the time design elements (indirect lighting in the dining room) and china from that era when they lived there. Our timing was at the end of the afternoon and we missed the opportunity to have tea and a snack there, but it's clear it would have been a lot of fun. Our snack was at the nearby DemiTasse, but that's another review.Written January 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RoBe48 contributionsIn a city known for its gardens, the Government House Gardens remain basically unknown. Maintained by volunteers, these gardens are lovely, diverse, and inspiring. A guided tour is worth the expense, and I can recommend Arthur and Leslie as guides with great knowledge and a passion for the gardens.Written July 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
