Don't want to sound like a jerk, but if you're going to change the a/c compressor yourself and can't figure out what engine you have, I myself would be a little hesitant about trying to do that job by myself.

You dont sound like a jerk at all.. I have a manual for my truck 99 ford Ranger that is.it might sound foolish to you but I watched a few videos on how to do so and if need be my neighbor would help me.. I talked to a buddy in NJ and said that I shouldn't have a problem at all. I have changed brakes, rotors ,plugs and things like that..I don't have the money to pay someone ,so I will do it myself and just take my time.. I appreciate everyone's input and fast responses

Watching videos and reading threads and blogs is all good stuff. But the A/C system takes special tools to do the whole job. If all you're doing is replacing the compressor and then taking it to a shop for evacuation and leak testing and charging, then you should have no trouble at all. If you intended to put freon in yourself, then you'll need a good vacuum pump, compressor oil, freon, a scale, gauges, etc etc etc.

BTW, do you have the Chilton's Haynes or official Ford manual on your truck? I always get the official oem manual. (they're available online as scans of the original in pdf format for $30-$40.)

I4 means inline 4 cylinder, which means 4 spark plugs, not 8.
The 3.0 and 4.0 are V6, so 6 spark plugs.

Enter your VIN here, and it will tell you what you have.

If you knew anything about the later 2.3 and 2.5 I4 engines, you would know that they have two spark plugs per cylinder.

2 spark plugs per cylinder x 4 cylinders = 8 spark plugs.

Guess that's what I get for ignoring 4 cylinder engines LoL!
They belong on bikes anyway

Oh for heavens sake...have him take a pic of the engine...
If its a 3.0l it would say so on the valve covers, if its a 4.0 it would say so on the big plastic throttle body cover...

More than likely its a 4 banger....if it has 8 plugs.

Good luck with the ac stuff....

They are no decals on the back of the bed of my truck to tell me what it is ...I appreciate all your help and thanks for bearing with my lack of knowledge
