Old westbury gardens is a beautiful place. Nice to wander about in the warm weather. But during the summer they host a series of musical evenings, with great bands , mini dance lessons and a area to dance. Check it out/
Some friends and I we enjoy so much the outdoors concert. I will recommend.
Please enjoy the beauty and fresh air during the concert .
We were delighted to visit The Old Westbury mansion on a rainy Monday! It does not cost extra to get a guided tour by a knowledgeable volunteer docent. The gardens were lovely, even in the rain, and the mansion is beautiful and interesting. I have lived in NYC for more than 15 years and never realized how many beautiful homes we can tour on Long Island--this visit only got us excited to see more!
Bring the entire family since it's become a tradition to many many families our here in Long Island who venture to the Old Westbury Gardens every year to see the Jack O'lanterns all lite up during the Halloween season. It's so much fun hearing the children of all ages making oohs and aaahs checking out the pumpkins in all their glory. So so many pumpkins and so creative have the artists turn them all in to a fantastic night show for kids of all ages. Cameras/smartphones all snapping away pictures and I have also submitted my pictures for all of you to see. Hope you like them! Note: Try to get your tickets early when they advertise for next year...save yourself some buckos, plan early! I did:-) See you next year 2018!
Thank you for your kind comments. Please share them with the event's production company TheRise.org
We was there on Thursday 10.19.2017 at 10 Pm. With the GPS its easy to find, but from the way we came, there was no signs for it. We drove over one hour to see and and I really hoped I would not be disappointed We wasn't. The organization to drive in and get to your parking spot was good. The time on your ticket is the time you get in, not before. They have little refreshments and T Shirts for sell. The pumpkin carvings are just really out of this world. So much craftsman ship. Also don't look only at the big once, pay attention to all the small once. Everyone is different and unique. You must have a lot of imagination to come up with all that . In one review I read its unsafe and overcrowded! I do not agree with that. At first there are different times and dates, So be wisely by making your pick. Of course on a Weekend to the most common times the crowed it big. And the behavior of people is not the farms fold. That's the reason I am always very careful to make my pick when I go to something in New York. Sorry but some of them are just out of this world ( not in a good way) So be smart about the time you go. The only tiny bit negative I would say, is after you come out there is no one who directs that traffic and again its the drivers who made that not to pleasant . I would go next year again.
The mansion tour, conducted by an engaging docent, was fascinating, filled with history of the beautiful structure (planning, building, decorating), the magnificent grounds (design, execution, upkeep), and the history of the era (early 1900s through 1950s) and the Phipps family owners (think US Steel fortune and inheritance). We enjoyed a delicious lunch on-site, al fresco, at The Cafe in the Woods. We enjoyed a lovely day and a delightful lunch.
