What does "Vanilla sky" mean?

My first language is spanish.

All I know is that "vanilla" is a flavor and that "sky" is like a heaven.

I know 2 things with this name :

1- a movie

2- a rap singer

BUt I dont see any connection.

Wjikipedia says that the movie was named like that because:

"it's a reference to depictions of skies in some of the paintings of Claude Monet; Crowe has noted that the presence of "vanilla skies" in the film is one clue to understanding turns that the plot takes[8]."

In what context is "vanilla sky" used in the english language.

No rapper named Vanilla Sky that I can think of...

As for the movie, though, Cameron Crowe, the director, has said that the title is a reference to the colour of the sky in many of the paintings by Claude Monet.

I suppose if I were to describe what it means in Spanish, I would use a less literal translation... cielo amarillo ligero.

The term, "vanilla sky" isn't commonly used in the English language. We do, however, use objects to describe colours. For example, "banana," "vanilla," "taxi cab," and "lemon" can all be used to describe various shades of the colour, yellow. The same can be said for "apple," "fire engine," and "sunset" for the colour red.

Normally, however, one one say "vanilla-coloured sky," but for the purpose of brevity and artistic license, "vanilla sky" may be acceptable as well.

You're probably wondering what Vanilla Sky has to do with the title of the original movie title: Abre los ojos. Although I've seen both versions of the movie, I don't know either. But, vanilla is also a color, so vanilla sky describes a sky with a whitish hue.

i kind of remember hearing some detail about this, maybe if you look on the commentary or special feature of the dvd of the film you may find an answer. i do know that the 'vanilla sky' was considered to be the title of almost famous- it may not have any meaning, just a title of an impressionist painting. also, if you didnt already know... the film is a remake of a spanish film called abre los oyos.

edit) brilrb may have hit it on the head. 'simulated reality'- as in the lucid dream company in the film.

I believe the term 'vanilla sky' refers to a sky filled with stars or a completely simulated reality. Sorry, that's the best I can do!

Yea, she's right and, "chocolate face" refers to a black person - like in Borat. I'll be so pissed off if I'm in violation for answering this.
